Possible to add POE across all ports of 450G?

Fri Oct 28, 2011 7:31 pm

HI there,

I'm looking to add POE to my 450G, but I want to know has anyone managed to do this and if so has it affected their in anyway?

Also what size PSU are you using.

Ohhh can you do that to an 450G?
If so what do you need to do? I'd like to try this too

It is well done with a router board 333
Believe that this must also be able to 450G
Note that and be carefull you do not hit other contacts

Possible to add POE across all ports of 450G?

I had asked about doing it to a 250GS and was told it would more than likely destroy the gigabit functionality.

On the 450G the pin layouts are different. If I take a picture can you tell me which is the correct pins to short.

Thank you.

It is indeed different.
It is better to RJ45 plug at one end cut off
Dismantle the wires color code:
blue and blue-white for the +
Brown and brown white for the - pole
Measure with a multimeter the contacts like the picture shown.
Think about there is now match place in the enclosure.

Ok I found the pins which i need to connect but my soldering iron is broken so I'm waiting on a new one. I will let you know how I got along.

But can you tell me please what size power block shall I use?

My plan is to use 2-3 wireless AP's from it. I was thinking about buying 24V 2.1A DC power supply (50W) as at the moment I'm using 18V 1A DC POE adapter (18W)

I would count on 24 volt 1 amp per accesspoint.
What will you have too much but it will remain stable
I use an adjustable soldering iron because you may not print the overheating.
work as precisely as possible, this is a very sensitive command
much success

POE for 10/100 Ethernet and for Gigabit Ethernet works completly different.
For 10/100 power is send over unused cables (4,5,7,8).
1000 Ethernet uses all 4 cable pairs, power is send over data lines.
Read Wiki article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Power_over_Ethernet
and save your RB450G from burning :D

By rewiring the ports for passive PoE, you will loose gigabit capability.
If your APs don't support gigabit, it won't matter.
