ETA on RB2011?

Fri Nov 18, 2011 11:19 pm

I'm curious to know the ETA on the 2011. We're very interested in deploying this as the CPE on our FTTH project, and likely as an option for customers on the wireless side of the house.

Thanks,

-Troy

Re: ETA on RB2011?

Is it possible to know what level of performances we can expect from this routerboard? Which is the closest between RB750, RB1200, RB1100AH? Or is it completely different? Can it route 1Gb/s of traffic from the sfp port to the rest? Even with 750bytes packets?

Greetings!

SFP and the Gigabit ports are connected to the same switch chip, so wire-speed throughput will be possible (full 1Gbit). CPU Performance will be better than RB435G

Same here.

Also wondering about what price range it will land in.

Sounds perfect for me.

I would like to pre-order one.

However I have few questions:
1. This one is not a real question, but I hope USB hole will look better than shown on the picture (pdf file).
2. There is LCD mentioned instead of LEDs for the model shown on the picture. Is that a typo or you seriously plan to include an LCD? LCD is nice to have, but not a critical issue if you deliver it with standard LED-s.
3. CPU architecture: Would it be mipsbe, mipsle, ppc or x86? The cheapest and most likely solution is Atheros 7161, but you stated that it would be faster than RB435G which uses Atheros 7161. Also it takes too long to develop this product so you are probably doing something new. That makes me think of something which is missing from your product line for a longer time. AMD Geode or VIA c3/Nano or something else which is cheap and scalable to create a brand new line of high end products. Intel Atom would be welcome too, but it wouldn't be a cheap and low end product.

1. better how? it's not a regular USB port, it's microUSB.
2. yes, there are plans to have a LCD panel, to monitor some stats on the rackmount unit front panel
3. mips-be different family

I have no problems with microUSB itself, but
- connector is deep inside; it's not aligned to the line where SFP and Eth ports are. Yes I know it's a different type of connector and it's much smaller/ shorter than Ethernet ports.
- due to the connector being deep you make a big and ugly hole for it. There should be a solution to resolve this design issue.
- Is there a specific reason why you decided to go with MicroUSB instead of regular USB connector? Standard one is bigger, longer and probably won't cause this issue...

Rest of the things are all good news for me.

Thanks.

It's there almost on all versions except on the L-RM one which is on the picture. So we can assume L = Light.

Where is the SFP port on the rackmount version ?

The only reason why we though release date will be in December 2011 is the name of the router "RB 2011". There is a big silence around this equipment. I wouldn't be surprised if we would need to wait until next December :(

Another think I suspect is that this "low cost" router wouldn't be so cheap. I would vote for a price between RB493G and RB1200. I hope it will be closer to 493G

We're anxiously waiting for a Mikrotik with a SFP port, This looks like it would be perfect, but even better if we can use Metarouter with it.

This is last working day in the year. I wish Happy new year to MikroTik and lot of great new devices for next year.

It would be great new year gift to 'leak' few infos about this new router to make it possible for us to decide if it's worth for waiting for RB2011 or it's better to invest to something else like RB493G, RB1200 or something better.

I have big plans for RB's with SFP ports.

I'd like for the RB2011 to at least be disclosed in 2011... before they turn into RB2012's.

Like how many models will have an SFP port ? And which will be the form factors ?
And will there be an 'embeddable' router board with an SFP port that I can disguise inside my magic box.

There is some information about it:
L LS US US-2HnD
Type Board Board Desktop Board
SFP - + + +
USB - - + +
WLAN - - - +
Serial - - + +
LCD - - + +

L (Board) 5 Gbit + 5 FastEthernet ports, no other features
LS (Board) L +SFP
US (Desktop) LS +Serial port and LCD
US-2HnD (Board) US +WLAN
RM - 1U Rackmount models
IN - Indoor/desktop models

For example RB2011US-2HnD-IN. Currently 7 variants
planned to release gradually from December to February.

Ah!

From:

L (Board) 5 Gbit + 5 FastEthernet ports, no other features
LS (Board) L +SFP
US (Desktop) LS +Serial port and LCD
US-2HnD (Board) US +WLAN

Now I read that the LS model is

A Routerboard, with 5 GigE and 5 Fast-E, that is embeddable and which has an SFP port on it.

Does it have a serial port ?

Is it the same board than in the US model ?

Are all RB2011 variants all built on the same L board + SFP model ?

I can definitely see myself buying a truckload of LS devices ;)

The L models don't have any serial, the non-L models have cisco style serial on the back. I'm sorry that we couldn't make it until the promised end of 2011, but the devices are really nearly ready, we have been testing them internally for a while now.

it is module feature. if your module works with SFP then everything should be fine. The other and has to support that as well.

I think you misunderstood my question.

If the module supports DDMI will the RB2011 display the information in Winbox/CLI and be able to poll it via SNMP ?

Specifically the A0h, A2h information e.g. Temperature, Vendor Name, Media Type, TX Power, RX Power and the alarms

Hi,

Can you please update us about ETA of RB2011? I'm not asking for exact date, but need to know what to expect. - Should I wait for this or buy something else. It's quite urgent for me. If you can't confirm it will arrive until the middle of February I have no other choice, I need to look for different model. Price / Performance infos would be welcome too - If it's possible.

The Rackmount with the LCD sounds intresting!
