RB1200 ROS 5.12 bootloader 2.38 issue.

Tue Feb 14, 2012 9:13 am

Hi Guys,

I did an upgrade last night to ROS 5.12 on my RB1200, this went fine and the router return operational again.
I then notice that there was a bootloader upgrade from 2.37 to 2.38, so I issued the /system routerboard upgrade

After which the the router fails to boot, I have not had chance to connect the serial cable to the RB1200 as this is at a remote site, If I force a boot to the backup bootloader then the router boots.

I have now downgraded to 2.37 but and ROS 5.11 but am still having the same issue, any Ideas ?

We have also notice that in the past when is was working that rebooting the router would result in the router going offline and not booting again, disconnecting and reconnecting the power would power it on again and start the boot cycle.

I have one RB1200 exhibiting this same behavior.

I had to yank the power when I did the initial upgrade in the office (5.3 or 5.4?). I discounted it as a fluke. Then after deployment, I did a remote upgrade to 5.7 and ended up having to drive out to yank the power.

It's now on 5.7 for the last 120 days or so running fine, but I'm afraid to upgrade it from remote and have been way too lazy to drive out and do it by hand (non-critical thing at this time).

I have several other RB1200 units have been upgraded/rebooted without issue.

Try to issue the /system routerboard upgrade in RouterOS v5.11 to get back working 2.37 bootloader.

Or upload the bootloader file to RB1200 and then do the upgrade. The file is available at http://routerboard.com/RB1200

Hi,

I did this without success, I have since managed to put 5.13 on with netinstall. However the netinstall I hod to try atleast 20-30times, before it took,
each time it failed the error was related to trying to write to teh nand. I susepect I have a buggy nand and thus will be taking the router back to our supplier
for a check and swap.

This sounds a lot like the problem I mentioned here. In my case, the RB1200 would either lock up before the boot loader printed anything to the display (about 1/3 of the time), or everything would work fine. Using the reset button to force the default boot-loader didn't help (it too would lock up 1/3 of the time before printing anything), and it didn't seem to matter how long the board had been powered on or off prior, or whether it was power-cycled or given a reboot command. Multiple upgrades/downgrades of ROS and boot loader did not help.
