Routerboard 411 and power supply problem

Fri Sep 07, 2012 1:43 pm

Good morning,
in the last few months I've often to have power problems with RouterBOARD 411 . I normally use power supplies 24 V 0.8 A. What happens is that RouterBOARD regularly operating within a cpe turn off suddenly and you do not rekindle more. I noticed that if I connect a power supply to 12 V, the RouterBOARD turns on again.
What causes this problem? How can I avoid it?

Thanks for your support.

How old is the RB411? If you power cycle the 24 volt power supply does the RB411 reboot? Or do you have to switch to 12 volts to get it to reboot? If the RB411 is several years old look at the Caps. Many of the older boards had bad caps. If the are greenish and not brown they are probably the bad ones and if swollen or leaking then replace them.

Usually the problem is the opposite where 12 volts is not enough especially on long cat5 runs and you need 24 volts to power it up. I have a tower powered by solar 24 volts and had to put diodes in line to drop the voltage from 27+ voltes to under 24 volts. The Rb400 series does not like voltages too high (over 24) or to low.

I hope this helps.
