RB433 - PHY Error After Reboot

Wed Sep 19, 2012 12:55 pm

Hopefully someone can help me.

I have a RB433 and after rebooting the RB, it didn't work - I connected a Serial cable (USB to RS232 Converter) with a Null Modem cable and was able to connect via Hyperterminal into the RB. The RB just reboots the whole time. Here is what it says:
-------------------------------------------
RouterBOOT booter 2.29

RouterBoard 433

Authorization: Passed

CPU frequency: 300 MHz

Memory size: 64 MB

Press any key within 2 seconds to enter setup..

PHY ERROR

trying bootp protocol.......

Another important item to note is that with a LAN cable connected from ETH1 to my Laptop it does not seem to connect at all, and no lights come on from the RB side. Hopfully there is some way fix this problem, if I can get into the RB with NetInstall I should not have problems installing the required software again.. It is as if the Ethernet ports are blocked or disabled.

Any Help Please... :?

Check voltage on C612 it must be ~1,9V If not replace Q601

So there is no other way to get this RB working again except if I get someone to test and solder on a new component? And to get someone in South Africa to do that is going to be a challenge...

Where in South Africa can I get the required replacement parts?

I'm still dumbfounded that something so innocent as a reboot can cause such havoc - still certain that it is a Software error..

Maybe MT should consider including "Install OS from Serial Port"

PHY error usually means defective switch chip IP175C-LF or IP175D-LF.

Yes. I've replaced many of them, they are pin compatible. But keep in mind there are still problems with IC+IP175D:

No. Every RB works like new before storm. IP175C even cheaper than IP175D.

Check voltage on C612 it must be ~1,9V If not replace Q601
What if this same error occurs on a 435GUAH board?
The value should be the same on C612?
If not, replacing q601will solve it?
Thanks!
