poweredge860 Virtualbox Ros, web proxy cache, freeastersik

Sat Oct 06, 2012 1:43 pm

Hi

I have been playing around with a Dell PE860, I am running Ros6,0 within Virtualbox. So far all seems to be working fine.

However, now I want to include web-proxy cache and there are a number of options. Any users out there have any personal experience?

1: use the MT proprietory onboard cache
2: Use squid in the host (windows 2008 server)
3:Use squid in another Virtualbox config
4: Use Windows own "media services cache" (WMS9.1) in the host.

Either way I think I am onto a hiding, since the PE860 has 2 times 1Gb ethernet interfaces and a third interface usually used for means of access.
However, if I understand correctly, it is possible to setup 8 virtual NIC's using Virtualbox.

Finally.

I wanted to install FreeAsterisk..

But having spend a week getting to know my way around the PE860 and a further few days struggling with Ros and a VirtualBox installation, I may just settle for the simplest cache.

The PE860 has 4coreXeon procs at 2.3Ghz and 4Gb ram.. Also 2 x 1.5Tb sata drives. (to be replaced with SSD)
