CCR1036-8G-2S+ will be a great box to build GIG ( or 10G with SFP+ ) ethernet ring between multiples POP.

CRS will also be a great device to deliver multiple managed service at client site ( FTTB delivery of MPLS, Internet, TVIP etc ), RB2011 already do a great job, but have some limitation if you need to deliver high bandwidth link !

But what Mikrotik will need to have I think is a device with many SFP socket to put on POP side to do FTTH and FTTB.

Maybe a CCR with 10 or more SFP socket to put in POP with Mikrotik SFP and put RB260GS for FTTH or RB2011 / CRS for FTTB service delivery !

Any thoughts on making a CCR with more 10g ports?

Ideal for me would be one with two 10g-base-t ports (to connect to two core switches), and one SFP+ port (to connect to fiber running to another site).

I think Normis mentioned that there was currently a hardware limitation.

The announced model fits our immediate requirement, but we also need a model with at least 4 ports. 2 for uplinks to other sites, and 2 for links via MLAG to redundant switches.
Im sure Mikrotik are working on something.

Oh,

Thanks to Mikrotik for all the hard work that has gone in to the new products. The CRS and CCR-1036-8G-2S+ are what a lot of us have been waiting for.

I like the Micro-SD card on the front of the new CCR, hopefully we see that on more products. It would be nice if we could load FW/configs from the micro-sd.

Oh, and 802.3af POE on the CRS would be REALLY useful for powering phones/IP cameras :) It would make the CRS the perfect "branch office router"

Hi all,

lots of good stuff in here :D

nz_monkey, knowledgeable as you are, do you have ideas as to the shape of the SXT HG? It appears to be significantly deeper than the normal SXT...perhaps some witchcraft to make it have tighter beamwidth?

Regards, Dave.

It is Mini PCI-e so faster than normal Mini PCI. Also it will fit in the new RB911 and RB912

Folks,
Why is Mikrotik focusing on more power 26 dbm .....30 dbm.... 32 dbm.
OKAY we can decrease the power to use it.

But what is Mikrotik doing to negate interference. or please can someone suggest ways for that.
That is big big trouble.

And please some new product to handle power on the routerboard.
So we can directly plug in the routerboard to Battery leads. 24Volts 60 amp should be good enough to give 48hrs backup on a RB711/911/Groove/SXT/411 etc.

Great Job!!
for me that I liked the
RB912G OUTDOOR-- (have metal shield?),
R11E-HPND- ( Maybe someday, you can put in 433 dual core)
CRS

But, were in debt. a more directional antenna cpe +21 db. :(
SXT HG (just out of curiosity Why do that much work to making equipment with just 1db more? )

Sorry my little English

Does the "smoother frequency curve " apply to both transmit and receive bandwidth and are they equal or do we have different frequency bandwidth curve for transmit and different frequency curve for receive, like the question i asked in my post

Hi Dave,

I am just guessing here, while the antenna gain is not significantly higher than the previous model, it is most likely more focused and has a more linear performance across the frequency band.

It would be nice to get some internal photos of the SXTHG and then we can really see what is going on.

Any throughput or detailed specs on the CRS?

I love the idea of this! But I am worried about the throughput since it is based on 9X series.
(The name "Cloud" on it is VERY misleading as it shares none of the architecture of the "CloudCore")

I love the idea, but I am worried it will not be able to deliver serious throughput.

This is a switch. Performance is wire speed. CPU has no effect on it. The CPU is there only to run the RouterOS based wireless AP/router. But you can just use it as a switch, without utilizing any of the router features. then it will run at full speed just like a switch shoud.

This is typical 2-in-1 product - 25port Smart Switch combined with RB911G-2HnD, so you can do all the things that were able to do with each of these devices separately and then there is additional things that you get by combining it.

So while switching you get "switch performance" = "wire speed", when routing, bridging you will get RB911G performance (that is limited to 1Gbps full duplex).

This will eliminate a lots of devices in small offices - imagine to have AP device/router for 500Mbps uplink and Smart Switch all-in-one device
With great knowledge comes great responsibility, because of ability to recognize id... incompetent people much faster.

My worry is how the switch functionality will handle under heavy load.

(Perhaps this is no longer a problem these days)

I just know of some switches, when under heavy load, turn into a hub and do not "switch" packets any more.
I believe this is no longer the case with any modern switch?

In a simpler question, what advantage would I have with this the CSR over a 2000$ HP procurve switch with the same amount of ports?
In "theory" will the CSR be able to handle just as much throughput as a switch (No routing, etc)?

Last question, can ALL the ports be switched? Or are they broken up into smaller switch "groups" like the RB-1100?
If that is the case then the groups need to be bridged in ROS, and this can be a problem for performance as it now needs to pass through the CPU, if my understanding is correct.

Maybe ask Mikrotik what will be the limit of MAC Address on the CRS switch chip ( If you have more host that the limit, it will act as a HUB ) ?

Do you have detail of the switch chips of the CRS ( Mac Adresse Limit, Vlan Limit etc ) ?
There is no info for the CRS on http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:Sw ... p_Features

Mikrotik replied before that it is a single switch chip in the CRS with all ports connected.

I do not have any details about the MAC address limit.

The routerOS software just runs to manage winbox and the wireless (in that model)

I want to hear if we can use all the switch chip VLAN features that we can in the 450G and 750G. Also hoping Mikrotik make a winbox gui for that thats easier to operate to make the trunk and access ports and the tagging / untagging.

Mikrotik would need to say what they are using to get a formal confirmation.

But maybe it would be this chip / range of chips:

http://www.convergedigest.com/2012/12/q ... eless.html

high port count switch and integrated wireless?

May be a little too soon for this to be included but the in theory is quite cool.

RouterOS is okay. But the other welcome features on CRS would be: per-port configuration and monitoring, DHCP Option 82, DHCP snooping prevention, VLAN support, forwarding between ports control, ACL, loopback detection, multicast filtering, etc.. In general - all the stuff that's required & important for FTTB deployment. If in future MikroTik will remember The Dude, all current MikroTik-made hardware would 100% serve most small to mid sized ISPs/WISPs with stability, powerful monitoring, convenient support and control. And all that for extremely reasonable price.

Guys, it's seems that you're going the right way, but you need to act faster. So, good luck!

And BTW, The Dude.. :)

Are there any news about CCR1036-8G-2S+ (should be available in June according to the croatian MUM presentation) or the CRS125-24G1S-RM (should be available in May according to the croatian MUM presentation)? Price? Availability? New dates? Anything?

Available in May of what year? :-) :-)

Hi,
according to the MUM presentation (direct link you find here: http://mum.mikrotik.com/presentations/ZA13/sergejs.pdf ) in South Africa in July 2013 (http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Events) should be released:
  • CCR1036-8G-2S+ in August 2013 (page 34)
  • CRS125-24G1S-RM in September 2013 (pages 31,32)

I can't believe you'd really need that - and without 10GB-Ports. I reckon that more optimizations in RouterOS would do the trick. But a 16, 36 or 64 core CPU is a whole lotta different beast than a single and dual core CPU. It's not just about switching to a more current kernel (which has been done with ROS6). Just ask the game developers that scratched their heads when they had to port their Intel based stuff onto the Playstation 3 (Cell CPU with 7 cores)......

The current Bottleneck is pps, im using the CCR with an BGP Session, and in the whole Internet are too much fucking Kiddies, they kill rly often my CCR with TCP-SYN Flood. In this Case: >350k pps w spoofed Senders kill the CCR. So, there is a need for more CPU Power, or MiktroTiK give more Priority to a better Routing Engine, they can handle massive Packets per Second. No UDP dont count.

The Problem is here with Backlog of the Kernel, they fuckup and crash the CCR, and yes then the BGP Session flapps much times, and some TIER I Upstreams gonna Blacklist me. This Problem dont exist on a Juniper MX40 and above, maybe the eol m7i can handle this too. but MT have to optimize the Software, i would pay more Money if they do. Yes there is a huge Market for MT.
