RBSXT ok for less than ideal environment?

Mon Apr 08, 2013 6:39 pm

Hi,

We're installing some equipment at a very remote location (think a plane and then a few hours drive from civilisation) in hot, dusty Australia, that requires a wireless point to point link, 300m line of sight.
The equipment will operate without the link so it's not mission-critical, but it would still be nice to have it last more than a few years.

The environment is sunny and hot. It easily reaches 45C in the summer. I doubt they can be installed under shade.
Are RBSXTs up to the task?

If not, we'll put in some RBMetals with some rugged antennas.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Should be just fine. Check out routerboard.com for the temperature range.

Hi Chris, thanks for your reply.
According to the specifications, it can certainly handle it - however, this is a *really* harsh environment, and it will be a real shame if it doesn't last long.

It would be great to hear some firsthand experiences of how well they have stood up to harsh environments.

Haha, I can't give first hand experience about that kind of heat, we rarely see 100F.

But I can tell you they can take the rain/ice/snow/cold just fine.

OK, that's reassuring!

Still, I would love if anyone could chime in and let me know they've use the SXTs in a high heat environment successfully.

Thanks!
