Case for RB953GS-5HnT

Tue Jun 24, 2014 10:53 am

I can't find any casings for the RB953GS-5HnT.
It looks like the CA/433 case fits if I modify the rear-end of the case. Am I right?

+1

That's what's holding me back ... and those SMA connectors too.

I've looked at that previously but the cut outs on the rear panel of the CA433 case doesn't match the RB953GS-5HnT (antenna & SFP cages).

Did you modify the case ?

I did not modify the case.
The cuts don't match but there is enough space for pigtails (SMA to N) and sfp's to fit inside the case. The SMA connectors and SFP cages have about 5cm of space to the rear-end of the case.

I will take a picture later today.

Here are some pics...
The pigtails I use in these pictures are a little 'large'. Normal sized cable will fit fine.

Thank you very much. The pictures help a lot because I was thinking the PCB extends to the end of the case which it actually doesn't.

Going to order one too. :D

Is this the best option then? How comes Mikrotik does not have a really well fitting case where one can also use the SFPs properly yet?

Hi,

So from this post it is clear that RB953GS-5HnT will work with CA/433 Case. But for Point to Multi Point installations, which antennas are compatible with it?

Is Ubnt Sector 120 degree 2X2 mimo compatible with this 3 X 3 mimo, though I think will not use the 3 X 3 feature of this routerboard. Are there any genuine 3 X 3 sectors available in the market?

Also what is the max supported distance and how many concurrent users are supported by this routerboard?

Thanks.

The older RB953GS-5HnT has SMA antenna connectors. For those you'll need 3 pcs of SMA to MMCX adapters to be able to use the MikroTik antenna :

The newer RB953GS-5HnT-RP has RP-SMA so you'll need 3 pcs of RP-SMA to MMCX adapters.

Those adapters are easily available on eBay. My advice is to purchase a couple of pieces more (eg.. 5 instead of 3) as those China-made adapters have fairly poor precision and may not fit properly.

I only have the option to buy the old model.Does it make sense to wait for the new board to be available?

If you're using the MikroTik case and antenna, then there is no difference. Just get the correct adapter (SMA to MMCX or RP-SMA to MMCX).

Mine is the old version with SMA connectors.

Hi Belgarion168,

could you please tell us exactly what hardware you used in that setup on the photo?
I won a MikroTikRB953GS at the MUM in Zürich, and want to use it as a 5GHz Home Router, because the 2,4 GHz Band here is so overloaded.

I could not find the Case online anywhere with the nice Mikrotik-Branded-Frontpanel as shown on your Picture. And then i still need three 5 GHz Antennas, and corresponding Pigtails.

Thanks for your exact information.

Kind regards
Fabian

It's a standard CA433U case and 3 x ACSWIM antenna.

You'll also need to purchase 3 pieces of RP-SMA to MMCX converters (or SMA to MMCX if yours is the older RB953GS) so that you can attach the antenna to the RB953GS. I bought those on eBay from some Chinese seller.
