Testing New MikroTik Hardware on Production Environment

Wed Jul 16, 2014 2:36 am

Tomorrow (2014/07/17 starting from 10:00 CEST [GMT +02:00])
I go to mount new pole and put on that:

New MTAD-5G-30D3-PA dish
http://routerboard.com/MTAD-5G-30D3-PA

with Flex-Guide
http://routerboard.com/ACRPSMA

for connect one BaseBox5 as Multi-Point to Point receiver (other side must vary)
http://routerboard.com/RB912UAG-5HPnD-OUT

powered by one RB750UP used as switc/PoE source
http://routerboard.com/RB750UP

for other four panels 90° 17dBi Cyberbajt H/V (MikroTik, when you start to build panels??? SXT-SA 90° has only 13dBi...)
http://www.cyberbajt.com/en/shop_item/3 ... hv_wb.html
Linked eachone by 30cm LMR900 with one box with inside one RB912UAG-5HPnD
http://routerboard.com/RB912UAG-5HPnD

if when I'm on the site, some direction do not provide good distance of service, on that direction I use instead of 912 one SXT-SA 90° 13dBi H/V
http://routerboard.com/RBSXTG-5HPnD-SAr2

All the CPE pointing here on the future are or SXT or Sextant or CPE "Stella" SICE 23dBi+3dBi "H or V" (inside are one RB911-5Hn) or QRT-5
http://routerboard.com/RBSXT5nDr2
http://routerboard.com/RBSEXTANTG5HPnD
http://www.sicetelecom.it/hiperlink/cpe ... atrh0591-s
http://routerboard.com/RB911-5Hn
http://routerboard.com/RB911G-5HPnD-QRT

I publish here all result of my work and future update about CPE etc...

If I'm authorized, I publish also some photos...

Will be very interesting for us to know your results.

When you talk about the sector antennas boxes you use those aluminum with pole mount?

Nothing with "ac" because if I use "80"MHz channel do not only disturb my own other devices, but all other devices from other operators, and on CEPT is forbidden (for now) the use of ore than 20+20.

Looks great rextended.

I totally agree regarding lack of available panels directly from MTK.I dislike buying 3rd party panels as I've had fitting and moisture problems with 3rd party panels.I'd definitely buy 90* 2.4ghz and 5ghz high gain panels from Mikrotik by the truckload if they ever produce them.

I have just finished to assembly on lab MTAD-5G-30D3-PA dish with flex-guide (included) and BaseBox5.

Ubiquity rocket dish are easily assemblable than MTAD-5G-30D3-PA [the only problem on MikroTik dish I found is excessive white paint on two hole, but easily fixed with one screwdriver],
but MikroTik mount system are more professional under all aspect...

Thank you for the compliments. A lot of work went into the RF design and you should also see an improvement over competitors models because of the port to port isolation and true gain.

Future versions will have a slightly bigger box and more will be pre-assembled at factory.

The base of the pole are fixed on the rock by 10 stakes of steel 40cm long fixed with chemical resin.

For today, end of photos.

When I go to put cable and solar panels, I put also some bracket for tilt the SXT-SA, I forget that at the lab...

Beautiful light tower, it allows you to climb on top or should be brought down for antennas/radios maintenance? Is it a product from Italy?

Do you using for mounting SXT 2x plastiс clamp ? Not original metal ring ? Why ?
Weather changes are not affected ?
I'm not using in my installation original mounting kit ... For vertical adjustment he not quite fit ...
Use this http://www.rfelements.com/en/products/b ... t-sxt-2-0/ very good mounting kit.

Being a complete novice in this area:
- Are you doing this personally or for a company ?
- Is it just to share an inet connection over the air ?

Thank you, nice setup.

I'm a WISP, this is another point of service, another point is where I put "PtMP 15Km" on photo and on photo are also present (not clearly visible) another point like this, 1 "Towers", and other two poles of different type. Another point is on Giglio Island. On Giglio Island are another company that buy our bandwidth for work.

Nice clean install. Personally I would try to either separate the antennas a bit more or put some extra shielding around the SXT's, even although they might already have internal shield.
More important, I put some wires on the upper ring for extra support. The tower will not easily blown over in high winds but it will start oscillating (shaking in the wind that tries to catch the dish). The vibrating (especial the twisting kind) will make your long back haul very unstable and it might even drop completely in very high winds.

So put at least 3 supporting wires with spanner to tighten them very stiff which will avoid the mast to start shaking.

I use nano-braket from rf elements.
http://www.rfelements.com/en/products/b ... universal/

Yes, there are not the specific model for SXT

But at the moment I have that.

Yes, finally yesterday the ENEL (Italian Company for Electricity) give me the link.

Today I have finish all the ethernet link, battery, surge protector & battery pack recharger, etc.

I have miss to center the PTMP because one storm is coming near, and I not like to be under rain for finish the work... ;)

Actually I give -63 without centering the antenna (Obviously are pointed with eyes).

On the next day I go again for finish some detail, if I can, I made another photo set and I post here.

Subsequently I report all the obtained performance.

Hi,

I've read the first post and seem to understand that you intend to power all the equipment via RB750UP unit(s). Have you actually tried this method on a long term basis? The reason I ask is that I have had some problems with excessive power draw and subsequent port resets on a small relay point (1 PtP backhaul (Sextant) and 1 sector (UBNT panel + Rocket M5)). The setup worked perfectly for about six months but then started playing up. Troubleshooting pointed to the RB750UP unit. I admit that this RB was one of the very early production models but even after replacing the whole setup with new equipment and taking into consideration all the maximum power requirements, I still have issues with port resets. I monitor the unit via SNMP and it does not seem to be temperature/CPU related. Looking at the PoE power draw also does not give any concrete result.

BTW, nice setup and even I would be interested in knowing the supplier for the mast.

Auguri,
Mark.

I have several of these in my network. Doing very nice job. Never fail. Uptime is only 100+ days because I do regularly update software. But some units are in place way over a year and never let me down...

Hi,

this might be associated with the fact that as conditions are worsening radios switch to lower data rates and in turn crank up the output power of the radios, thus getting larger usage spikes. If router power chain capacitance is too low to compensate for these spikes, you get the spike out to PSE (RB750UP) and over the ethernet power loss increases quadratically and you get an overload detected.

Yes. 750up are very useful. With .ac I would need a gigabit version now. I had only one dying. This was a lightning stroke which removed the casing from the board ...

Finally all is working from some week.

Final list of material used:

MTAD-5G-30D3-PA dish
Flex-Guide
BaseBox5
Powered by stand-alone PoE

RB750UP as power source for:
3 x SXT-SA + nanobracket
