RG750UP PoE out on IP Camera

Fri Nov 21, 2014 11:55 am

Hello to all
I have question about RB750UP PoE Output and power.

Plan is to connect 2 HD IP Cameras 12 VDC ± 10%, PoE (802.3af) to 2-3 Port on RB750UP Router.
As Cameras work on 12V I think to change 24 2,5A Power adaper (that goes with RouterBoard) with new 12V 4A power adaper.

Woud this work, with no problem ? Max IP Camera comsumation is 7,5W

Any advice about this would be great :-)

Thanks

RB750UP is limited to 1A for channel and 2.2A total PoE output. Disregarding the voltage.

You should be able to power 2 cameras from one RB750UP. Also, note, that there will be some voltage drop over cables and going through the RB750UP, so you can look for 13V to 14V PSU.

one thing: RB750UP is not .af compliant, and neither you cameras if they need a 12V POE. .af standard is about -48V DC.
In theory it should work without problems, however, if you use long cables (100m) or low quality cables (cca) your cameras might not start because the voltage drop on the cables is too high.

That you can only find out by trying.

well, 12V and 100m cable - either usage is very very low, or you will get no power reliably at the other end.

Thank you all for help

I this case,I use Pach Cord Cat6 FTP cable Brend-Rex. My cameras are about 10m and less from Switch, In any case never more then 30m-40m.

So I ned to buy 12V 4A power adapter and it will work on 2 cameras ?

Once again thank you

Cameras have power conector, and work with 12V DC 1A power adapter.
Also have PoE 802.3af.

I seen in spec for RB750UP that he is not 802.3af compatibile, that is why I ask, is it ppossible to connect PoE IP cameras, and what to do to make it possible to work (to change power adapter from 24V to 12V) ?

Perhaps if you were to post the make and model of the cameras you are considering, the good people of the forum here could look up the actual specifications and advise you better.

No it wont be possible. IP cameras work on 12 v only using the power conector. If you use the ethernet cable you need to supply at least 38,40 volts ( 48 volts for AF standart)

I have done some tests using an RB2011 and one of my IP camera's.

When I use a passive POE in block on the camera side I'm able to supply 12v through the routerboard to my camera and make it work. Without it, the camera does nothing (although it has POE).

So maybe that could be a solution for you? I'm talking about little cables as such
