Advice please, best RouterBoard for site to site SSTP VPN

Sun Dec 21, 2014 5:12 pm

I'm looking to purchase two RouterBoards so I can set up a site-to-site VPN using SSTP.
Does anyone have any recommendations as to which RouterBoard model would be most suited?

Basically I'm setting up a remote office in Budapest and discovered the standard VPN ports are being shaped by the ISP, so planning on using SSTP VPN via standard SSL port. I read the newer RouterOS does not need certificates for SSTP VPN, which sounds quite convenient.
Ideally if the RouterBoard on the Budapest end had wifi as well, the main site RouterBoard in the UK doesn't need wifi.
Not sure if it's relevant but it will be a fairly small office in Budapest, a couple of computers, a couple of VOIP phones, couple of IP security cameras and probably a Roku or similar gadget to access on demand TV.

Thanks for your help!

Gary.

Selection of the router would be based on what throughput and number of ports. Any router with license level 4 should suffice

For small offices, I have been using the RB951Ui-2HnD and an external switch

I'm a fan of the RB2011 hardware. I have several of these deployed RB2011UiAS2HnDI running site-to-site IPSEC VPNs.
That model has wireless included, there is another variation of the same case/routerboard without wireless.

I would really take a look at the RB850Gx2, since it has hardware encryption support and a faster CPU.
If you need/want rack mounted hardware, a RB100AHx2 or CCR1009-8G-1S are great candidates, but in another price class.

Couldn't agree more.. Both of those devices work great for IPSec links !!

@bkuhn -

How many concurrent site-to-site IPSec tunnels, would you guess, the RB2011 can handle?
I must plan ahead for at least 25-30 concurrent L2TP/IPSec tunnels and I'm trying to pick the right MikroTik hardware for that.
I already have a RB2011, but wondering if I need do move up to the new RB850GX2...

Thx

Except that the 850Gx2 does NOT have hardware encryption. It's for a later model revision. I got fooled too but it's fast enough for my 10 megabit upload connection:))

with integrated Wlan card disabled power consumption will be approximately the same.
