Proper Grounding of RB

Mon Jul 03, 2006 8:25 pm

We have been having a couple RB532s die on us recently. From looking at the RB and the Nema enclosure we are using we don't see any grounding lugs.

My main question is what is the proper way to ground the RB? Do you connect the ground to the Case and the RB or just the case?

Thanks for any help you can give us.

The middle mounting holes of the RB500 (mounting holes next to U25 and U6 markings) should be connected to ground. Typically, they should be mounted with metal spacers to a metal case or backplane that is grounded.

Grounded to the tower/pole earth, or indoor mains ground earth?

I'm guessing the former, or the radio card would suffer/fail in the case of surges.

On ours when we received them only the four corner holes where used for mounting the Routerboard. Do these also ground the routerboard? Do you attach a wire to the routerboard and to the case or just to the case and use the mounts to ground the Routerboard?

Thanks
