Hardware to Support 1Gbps EoIP Tunnel?

Mon Aug 17, 2015 4:06 pm

I am new to Mikrotik, and am looking to establish a 1Gbps EoIP tunnel. I am looking for hardware recommendations on what can support a 1Gbps EoIP tunnel. What do you recommend?

It depends...are you planning on running it encrypted?

If not RB1100 or better should be fine.

For 1 Gbps Tcp with EoIP + encryption you are probably going to have to go with some relatively beefy x86 on both sides of the tunnel.

I would probably start with a CCR1009 on each side. you'll get AES-CBC hardware offload and plenty of horsepower to reach a gig with EoIP.

The performance requirements largely depend on what kind of MTU and overhead you'll have and if you'll need to allow EoIP to frame fragment or not which slows down performance at higher rates and requires more CPU overhead.
