Well the standard isn't due until 2019, so don't hold your breath for anything before 2020.

Only if V7 is out until then.

It is difficult to get 256QAM modulations reliable in uncontrolled environments, I wonder how well 1024QAM will work in the 2.4GHz spectrum?

I guess that will require better filtering and noise cancellation than the current hardware, which *should* be good news for everyone.

Hopefully they'll get better out of band emissions, better cut off than the current chips.

Looks like chipsets are already starting to hit the market ahead of the specification finalization. Would be nice if MT was ready with new products when 802.11ax client devices start being produced, they were so late getting on the 802.11ac train - hopefully it won't also be the case with 802.11ax.

Before 802.11n was finalized, a lot of "pre-n" routers shipped. They worked within a vendor's own world, and might have interoperated. Now we're seeing pre-ax getting ready to ship.

I don't think 1024QAM is going to do much good, though on good clean strong 5 GHz PtP links, it could come in handy. The real star of 11ax is likely to be its ability to use selective carriers (OFDMA). So let's say you want an 80 MHz channel from 5650 to 5730. But there's crud on 5690-5710. You just select the clean 60 MHz on either side. You can also create narrow bandwidth links if it helps, and have multiple narrow upstream links divide the same bandwidth used for the downstream. LTE does this already.

Looks like 802.11ax consumer devices will be hitting the market later this year. I really hope Mikrotik is working on something too!

Any news? ASUS are releasing their RT-AX88U this month which is based on 802.11ax. Would love for Mikrotik to keep up with the home / office wifi space.

I just bought some capACs, I really detest the need for companies to find ways to get more dollars, euros, yuan, pesso, rubles, yen, out of my pocket.

There is hardware: https://wikidevi.com/wiki/List_of_802.11ax_Hardware

But you need to convince MT to build a driver.

Nobody builds their own drivers. The majority of the driver and software stack for the chipset is from qualcomm and everyone builds their layer on top of it.
By the time there are enough devices on the market to take advantage of 802.11ax, these APs that are coming out now will all be obsolete. It looks like Mikrotik knows this and is putting their focus into developing their next gen products(v7, ax, etc.) instead of releasing too early because of hype.

It's only about the software and that's what will take a lot of time for Mikrotik to get working, lagging behind competition probably by 1-2 years.
Hardware wise, Qualcomm/Atheros provides reference design boards, some APs are just that in a custom box, for example: https://wikidevi.com/wiki/Compex_HK01
Just look at these specs... it completely blows RB4011 out of water, with wired 10GbE, SFP+, USB 3.0, extra miniPCI slots (not occupied by wireless).
Get ROS running on a board like this and it will be killer product.
But so far we can only dream... not a single word about 802.11ax from Mikrotik...

You Are wrong Mikrotik does build there Driver by them selves, they don’t use the Qualcomm driver oob, and this is why they are missing a lot of features, like Spectral Scan, narrow channels, speeds near distance to competitors etc

Just look at these specs... .
Take a look at the price in the shop: https://shop.compex.com.sg/hk01.html => 1888$ for a produce which is pre 802.11ax.
Of course I would like to see 802.11ax aswell,so wait 1 or 2 years till they´ve finished the standard at IEEE. Then release a product with a price tag of something like a cAP ac.

Dev boards and dev kits are always super expensive, the BOM cost is probably closer to $188 than $1888.
No one expects Mikrotik to have this hardware ready and selling right now.
But at least to acknowledge 802.11ax exists and that they are working on it... maybe have a board like this running ROS at a MUM just as a showcase piece. Even if the final product may be available a year later.
It would be good for marketing and when other companies are doing it (having first ax hardware or some demo boards or just something) and Mikrotik is totally silent, it just looks bad.
