Advice wanted

Wed Feb 22, 2017 4:13 pm

I want some advice which AP's to use.

I have a home with 3 floors and I want to have seamless 2.4 and 5 Ghz coverage on these floors.
So I have been looking through all the documentation and come up with 2 possible solutions.

1: Use a wAP ac on each floor and manage the 3 AP's with CAPsMAN
2: A Metal 52 ac on each side of the house mounted half way the first floor outside against the wall. One on 5 Ghz and the other one on 2.4 Ghz.

Can someone give me advice?

There are not simple answer for this question.

It depends of the building architecture.

- Wall density
- Windows Size
- Space you like to cover (meters)
- Obstacles inside

In the mayor case is better more access point with proper location (you can try some wifi site surve simulator) with power and cover area control.

The walls (30cm) on the sides and the floors (20cm) are made of concrete. the walls in front and back are from bricks and the inside made of drywall aprox 20 cm
The floors are 5x12 meters and we don't have any big obstacles other than normal inventory.

So you suggest that more access points is better than one big one?

And how about seamless roaming with 3 access points, will CAPsMAN take care of that?

I think 3x wAP ac + hEX with CAPsMAN will be better because Metal 52 ac is single chain but wAP is dual+triple.

It is not a rule more access point.

If you have to much users density is better. For example if you have more than 30 devices per floor you may use more than 1 WAP to share associated devices.

About roaming MT have been working to improve it with CAPSMAN, i think it works good.

I agree with @baragoon about the metal limitations for this deployment.

I hope this information will help you.

Thanks everyone for your advice, I think I go for the suggested multiple access points with CAPsMAN.
Although it not totally clear to me if I get the same (seamless) roaming with CAPsMAN, As you will get with Ruckus or Open-Mesh for example.

I like that the controller (CAPsMAN) is running on the routerboard on site and not in the cloud.
