100 Mbps Link Required.

Fri Nov 24, 2006 10:43 am

Hi all.

We need to setup several 100Mbps P2P wireless links. Distance, Maximum 30km. Any suggestions on what equipment to use with RouterOS, and what setup?

Thx.

Assuming your links need to be half duplex, you'll probably need 3 or 4 directional antennas and wifi cards at each end. You'll also need a somewhat powerful PC to put these wifi cards in.

Perhaps use SR2 or SR5 for the radios.

Thanks RK.

Should I use bonding, Nstreme2 or what setup to link the cards together?

Can we bond two N-streme Dual interfaces?

Also, we need to run WDS.

Ok.

Mikrotik support suggested using multiple N-Stream Dual interfaces. Question is how to bond them? Can support post a script of A-Z starting with N-Stream Dual setup till the bonding. Please remember, we need to run WDS or MAC forwarding. Also, any issues with Mikrotik supporting P4 Hyper-Threading?

Thx.

just use bonding on them. or load balancing of some kind

Site A to Site B
EOIP1 over NStremeDual1
EOIP2 over NStremeDual2

Site A
BondA EOIP1 + EOIP2

Site B
BondBA= EOIP1 + EOIP2

Site B to Site C
EOIP3 over NstremeDual3
EOIP4 over NStremeDual4

Site C
BondC= EOIP3 + EOIP4

Site B again
BondBC= EOIP3 + EOIP4
BridgeABC= BondBA + BondBC

Would this setup work?
Would it create a load balanced network?

We need to keep LAN clients on Sites A, B and C on same subnet and MAC forwarding available.

If yes, then do we need to setup WDS anywhere? Or (EOIP + enable proxy-arp on Bonding interfaces and Bridge is enough)?

None to answer? Pls guys. Want to put MT super-test into action here. If this works, then we shall beat Proxim and Cisco units. Though 4 grids on top of each other is quite a site. LoL.

You could look into dual-polarized antennas, they have two N-Female inputs - one for horizontal polarization, and one for vertical polarization. Then you would only need to use 2 dishes for 4 radios.

Was reading the manual, but couldn't figure out a point. Is there a Bonding Mode that can function similar to Nstreme dual, ie set 1 slave interface to send, another to receive?

I want to make one link p2p 12 km in bridge mod.I want to achive this link the most high throughoutput .What configuration can I use.
If i use 2 or RB 532 with 4 radio mpci at boths ends ,with 4 antenas and i set this link nstream is good?How much megs I can achieve?
What mpci you advice to use I?
(R52) 802.11a+b+g 65 mW Wireless miniPCI Card is good?
If i use cards with more power 400 mW can I achieve more Mbps?
Now i have one link with 2 antenas parabolic 28 db in 5,8 ghz and 2 acces points from compex but i need more .This equiments not work much 10 Mbps.

No answer yet for the Bonding Mode! Kindly, either answer or please add more details in the manual!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Secondly, is there a way to setup policy routing by dst interface and not IP?

Unfortunately not - I (and others) have asked for it, but there no interface-based routing in MikroTik until now...

Best regards,

No, bonding will wokr in the different manner, bonding might provide failover for the wireless link, Dual Nstreme requires link between two router's interfaces.
Bonding opertation mode depends on 'mode' in interface bonding configuration,
mode difference explained in the bonding documentation, some more information about bonding,
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Bonding_Examples

If you want to use bonding over wireless, you can either create two EoIP tunnels between routers or use WDS. WDS configuration is the following,
1) set 4 wireless interface to mode=bridge;
2) establish two WDS links respectively;
3) WDS interface should be used as bonding slave.

Normis,

Is it possible that bonding can sustain about 100 000 simultaneos connections (peers) (tcp and udp protocols at most) ?

why not? if your hardware can deal with it. AFAIK software will see was ONE BIG link instead of few smaller.

Thx everyone for all your support.

Got access to competitor proposals:

Motorolla Canopy BH
Motorolla Nextnet Wimax 802.16d

found out an MT solution is still the cheapest, but comes at a cost of higher frequency spectrum consumption to achieve the same speeds as claimed by other brands. I insist as claimed, not tested by us. The point is according to our tests, we do lose quite a lot of bandwidth if we limit the spectrum to 5Mhz spectrum only. In one test, the same link dropped from 13Mbps BTest TCP receive in normal mode to 1.8Mbps on 5Mhz spectrum. Yet, MT remains the price buster. If we win the tender, I shall post the results of the setup. Thx again.

By the way, if MT regards the mentioning of those other brands as harmful, please remove this post and I will completely understand.

3) WDS interface should be used as bonding slave.
If you set all 4 interfaces in mode=bridge can N-Streme still be used? If not is there a way to use nstreme with WDS bonding?
