wAP AC and capsman

Wed Jul 19, 2017 1:32 am

Hello there.
I'm about to configure wireless network with ~15 rbwapg-5hact2hnd ( wAP Ac ).
What router would be the best as CAPSMAN for that amount of AP's ?

What's the bandwidth you're going to distribute? Expected number of users?

its for a "hotel" with 4 floors, on each floor ~10 rooms, and 2 rooms for conferences for around 80 users.
so it is needed to serve just internet connection mostly for mobile devices.
internet connection would be up to 100mbit.
so I would assume MAXIMUM capacity to ~200 users.

I assume you're going to have several SSIDs, using hotspot to control users.

4 stories x 10 rooms = 40 rooms, for two users = 80 room users
2x 80 users (conference rooms) = 160 conference rooms users

So total maximum could be 240 maximum potential users not counting staff, etc.

While 100Mbps is not too demanding, sharing it with 240 maximum potential users along with their devices while ensuring QoS is a different story.

Even if the hotel is half-full, most rooms will have 2 users, which possibly will average three or more devices, so simultaneous station count can easily be around 200-500 stations on peak times.

I'd use a CCR1009 minimum. RB1100AHx2 may fit the bill too, but doesn't have SFP which may be handy to hook the switch and the CCR1009, and not worth in this case IMHO for the price / CPU performance difference vs CCR1009.
