Network speed issues

Thu Jan 24, 2019 3:40 pm

Hey guys,

I'm having issues with my network, if anyone can take a look at the design layout and may be able to help with below issues.

Bandwidth tests between routers
R2-R1 Download speed 100M + (R2 - R1 is over wireless)
R4-R2 Download speed 100M + (R4 - R2 is over wireless)
R4-R1 Fluctuates between 30MB to 50MB

R1 - R2 Wireless 802.11ac -30 / -30
R4 - R2 Wireless 802.11ac -48 / -47

R1- CCR1016-12S-1S+
R2- RouterBOARD 3011UiAS ROS v6.42.11
R4- 2011UiAS ROS v6.42.11

Traceroute from R4 to R1
10.0.4.1 - 10.0.0.1

Ping to 8.8.8.8
8m 8m 8m

PPPoE terminations are on routers close to clients, no PPPoE server on R2
Client on R4 CPE connected to PPPoE. Bandwidth tests to R1 show 20M but on speedtest.net show different results, up and down to 10MB.

R4-R1 Fluctuates between 30MB to 50MB
This is the issue - make some tests using MK TCP 1 (TCP connection count) connection test (or iperf or other single TCP throughput test). What protocol is selected at the wireless links R1-R2,R2-R4 ? (NV2 is not good for p2p).

Hey Petrb,

R1 - R2: 802.11 ac wireless
R2 - R4 is set to NV2 as I was creating self interference on the R1 - R2 link

NV2 is all I can use on R2 - R4 as nstreme drops to many times due to interference.
The link is passing over a small town and is picking up alot of access points in the 5ghz band.
I changed out the R4 ptp 2 link to an rf element dishes instead of a QRTac this helped a bit

- what is the channels configuration for R1-R2 and R2-R4?
- 1 tcp connection test R1-R2, R2-R4, R1-R4 ?
- CCQ at the R1-R2 and R2-R4 during TCP test from R4-R1 ?

R1-R2
5805
5Ghz only AC
5805/20-Ceee/ac(33dBm)
Tx / Rx Signal Strenght -29/-28 dBm
distance is set to dynamic but the link is 1KM in distance
TX fluctuates up and down between 50 to 80% and the RX is fairly consistent between 80% to 90% there is always traffic going through the link
Signal to noise is 80 dB

R1-R4
5785
5785/20/an(33dBm)
74/70 % CCQ
7 km link distance
NV2 wireless protocol
Signal to noise is 63 dB
Tx/Rx signal strength -45/-45 dBm

- CCQ at R1-R2 during TCP test 74/52 % it fluctuates between 50 / 90 both Tx / Rx bandwidth test shows 130Mbps to 150Mbps in direction receive
- CCQ at R2-R4 during TCP test 78/73 % is fluctuates between 70 / 80 both Tx / Rx bandwidth test shows 38Mbps to 40Mbps in direction receive
- CCQ at R4-R1 TCP during TCP test 95/69 % it fluctuates between 60 / 90 both Tx / Rx bandwidth test shows 38Mbps to 40Mbps in direction receive

Note: If I bandwidth test from the clients CPE, it hits 20mb download on the cpe back to R1 but when I go to the clients house and do a download test on speedtest.net it peaks between 9 - 10Mb.

:(

- what type is the connection between R4 to CPE?
- PPPoE full MTU?
- CPU usage at the R4, packet errors, traffic shaper ?
- single TCP test speed test from R4 to CPE?

I have no idea ....

PPPoE server on R4 see image attached

I left MTU blank on the pppoe server.
The client cpe I have it set it to 1480

The client is having the traffic shaping done on R4 and I see very few packet drops in the queue tab, its set to wireless default queue type.

The connection to the client cpe is a qrt ac 802.11 license 4 in ap bridge
5745/20-Ceee/ac(33dBm)
-53/-56 dBm
CCQ 92/87 %
Noise Floor -106 dBm
Signal to noise 51 dB

5745/20-Ceee/ac(33dBm) vs 5785/20/an(33dBm) ???? realy??? to much output power and channels overlapping.

5785/20/an(33dBm) is R2-R4 PTP link
5745/20-Ceee/ac(33dBm) is an AP on R4 facing opposite direction to the PTP R2-R4 link

R4 AP was set to AUTO frequency and it set itself to 5745/20-Ceee/ac(33dBm)

The AP is running routeros-mipsbe-6.42.11, do I need to change installation is set to "Outdoor" and nearest client to furthest client distance on the AP with is around 9KM

Most 802.11 devices will only detect C channel as occupied while other channels might get described as "noisy" if they happen to be utilized during channel scan.

BTW, what's front-to-back ratio of both antennae? I'm afraid that sum of both is not much higher than 30dB, which quite less than path loss of a typical PtP link.

9km is very long distance ...... in my opinion, the wireless device works well for lower distance, depends on the antenna
if you can:
- use 20MHz channels (Max Ce - 40MHz)
- use 2x2 mimo
- use nonoverlapping channels at the one site (be careful when you use "Ce" channels)
- don't use channels near each to the other, 20MHz gap is minimal
- don't use maximum output power, it is not good for the signal

example devices for 6km 5GHz
ø 680 mm - http://cz.jirous.com/anteny-5ghz-parabo ... 29DD_MIMO/

PTP link
R2 - R4

R2 side UltraDishTM TP 550 with MikroTik RouterBOARD RB922UAGS 5HPacD 802.11ac 866Mbps
R4 side UltraDishTM TP 400 with MikroTik RouterBOARD RB911G 5HPacD 802.11ac 866Mbps
AP on R4 is QRT AC L4

Detect Radar is causing a lot of issues with frequency selection
