Why is B band not active even if wireless set to B/G/N?

Sun Feb 17, 2019 9:02 pm

Hi,

Here's the wireless configuration:
/interface wireless export
# feb/17/2019 19:56:54 by RouterOS 6.43.11
# model = RouterBOARD 962UiGS-5HacT2HnT
/interface wireless
set [ find default-name=wlan1 ] antenna-gain=2 band=2ghz-b/g/n channel-width=20/40mhz-Ce disabled=no distance=indoors frequency=auto mode=ap-bridge ssid=AirNet wireless-protocol=802.11 wps-mode=disabled
set [ find default-name=wlan2 ] antenna-gain=3 band=5ghz-a/n/ac channel-width=20/40/80mhz-Ceee disabled=no distance=indoors frequency=auto mode=ap-bridge ssid=AirNet wireless-protocol=802.11 wps-mode=disabled
/interface wireless security-profiles
set [ find default=yes ] authentication-types=wpa2-psk mode=dynamic-keys supplicant-identity=MikroTik wpa-pre-shared-key=XXX wpa2-pre-shared-key=XXX
Even though the 2.4 bands are set to B/G/N the radio is setup to be only G/N:
/interface wireless monitor wlan1
                 status: running-ap
                channel: 2412/20-Ce/gn(28dBm)
      wireless-protocol: 802.11
            noise-floor: -105dBm
         overall-tx-ccq: 78%
     registered-clients: 4
  authenticated-clients: 4
            wmm-enabled: yes
      current-tx-powers: 1Mbps:23(23/28),2Mbps:23(23/28),5.5Mbps:23(23/28),11Mbps:23(23/28),6Mbps:23(23/28),9Mbps:23(23/28),12Mbps:23(23/28),18Mbps:23(23/28),24Mbps:23(23/28),36Mbps:23(23/28),48Mbps:22(22/27),
                         54Mbps:21(21/26),HT20-0:23(23/28),HT20-1:23(23/28),HT20-2:23(23/28),HT20-3:23(23/28),HT20-4:23(23/28),HT20-5:23(23/28),HT20-6:21(21/26),HT20-7:20(20/25),HT40-0:23(23/28),
                         HT40-1:23(23/28),HT40-2:23(23/28),HT40-3:23(23/28),HT40-4:23(23/28),HT40-5:23(23/28),HT40-6:21(21/26),HT40-7:20(20/25)
    notify-external-fdb: no
Why is that? How do I make the B band work? I have an old device that requires it.

PS: If I set the configuration to only B band then it works, but I also want G/N.

40MHz channel width is clearly not compatible with 802.11b ... try to change that to 20MHz only to see if that makes any difference.

Makes no difference:
/interface wireless
set [ find default-name=wlan1 ] antenna-gain=2 band=2ghz-b/g/n disabled=no distance=indoors frequency=auto mode=ap-bridge ssid=AirNet wireless-protocol=802.11 wps-mode=disabled
set [ find default-name=wlan2 ] antenna-gain=3 band=5ghz-a/n/ac channel-width=20/40/80mhz-Ceee disabled=no distance=indoors frequency=auto mode=ap-bridge ssid=AirNet wireless-protocol=802.11 wps-mode=disabled
/interface wireless security-profiles
set [ find default=yes ] authentication-types=wpa2-psk mode=dynamic-keys supplicant-identity=MikroTik
As you can see:
/interface wireless monitor wlan1
                 status: running-ap
                channel: 2422/20/gn(28dBm)
      wireless-protocol: 802.11
            noise-floor: -106dBm
         overall-tx-ccq: 31%
     registered-clients: 1
  authenticated-clients: 1
            wmm-enabled: yes
      current-tx-powers: 1Mbps:23(23/28),2Mbps:23(23/28),5.5Mbps:23(23/28),11Mbps:23(23/28),6Mbps:23(23/28),9Mbps:23(23/28),12Mbps:23(23/28),18Mbps:23(23/28),24Mbps:23(23/28),36Mbps:23(23/28),48Mbps:22(22/27),
                         54Mbps:21(21/26),HT20-0:23(23/28),HT20-1:23(23/28),HT20-2:23(23/28),HT20-3:23(23/28),HT20-4:23(23/28),HT20-5:23(23/28),HT20-6:21(21/26),HT20-7:20(20/25)

OK this is actually a bug in the RouterOS UI & CLI: wether or not the wireless bands are configured to "b/g/n" or "g/n" the wireless interface will report to run in "20/gn" bands, but in the former case my B device can connect (Fitbit aria) but the latter case, it cannot. So the settings work correctly but the reported wireless configuration is misleading.

How does this get the attention of Mikrotik folks so they fix the bug?
