R11e-LTE firmware bug.

Tue May 21, 2019 10:31 am

Hi,

After installing "MikroTik _CP_2.160.000_v011" passthrough mode is not working anymore.
If you are using this mode, I strongly advise against installing latest FW.

How to downgrade R11e-LTE firmware ?

Hi

Do you have IP reverse path filter set to strict on lte modem? Try lowering it, loose should be enough.

(I've set it to loose on both devices, IP/Settings RP Filter, anyway it was set to no). No change.

Configuration is as it was, the only thing that i've changed is LTE modem firmware :/

Still no go.... I would like to downgrade firmware if possible :-/

Wap-LTE (eth1) <-> (eth1/wan) Hex3

Now, I've upgraded firmwre of the wap-lte to testing, and seems that default gateway received on the router side is "better" (not some strange subnet) but it still does not work.

OK... so maybe someone know where I can find old firmware files?

Seems that I can specify file to upgrade/downgrade(?) FW in R11e-LTE modem...

Hello.

I also confirm this error. I had to turn off the passthru mode to make anything work.

My battles with the LTE R11e-LTE modem

Hello.
I would like to extend my previous post and describe how the LTE devices in remote locations were implemented.

1) View of installed equipment

In remote locations, the following network layout has been damaged in part due to historical reasons, and also to be able to take advantage of LTE multiAPN functionality.

The general diagram of network connections

(LTE Service Provider) <-> (LTE Modem in MultiAPN Mode) <-> (Remote Router) <-> (Devices)
Bez tytułu.jpg
In remote locations, the built-in system is as follows:

1) Installation of LTE modems
Bez tytułu 4.jpg
A view of built-in routers at remote locations that provide connectivity with devices installed in a given location.
Bez tytułu 5.jpg
2) Description of communication

The router with the LTE modem communicates using vlanes. For the two APN LTE configured in the modem, two vlans have been assigned to which the lte passthrough mode has been configured. On the router, the dhcp client runs on these two vlanes, which reads the addresses and configures the necessary routes using the script.

3) Problem with the modem.

On some devices it happens that communication is interrupted. This is manifested in the fact that the connection made by the LTE modem indicates that packets are sent but there are no returnable packets.

Below I presented such a situation (server is pinged with a package size of 1024)
Zrzut ekranu z 2019-06-04 07-30-18.jpg
And on the router the situation looks like this:

Disabling the LTE interface

Enabling the LTE interface - the interface disappears from the list
4.jpg
- interface appearance
5.jpg
- restoring communication on the router after restarting the modem
6.jpg
- modem version
7.jpg
This problem occurs for the software version 2.160.000_V008 and 2.160.000_v010.
For software version 2.160.000_v011, the LTE passthrough mode is bordering on a miracle.

As for me, this problem lies in the modem firmware. No return packets from the interface, disappearing interface during the restart indicate a problem in the modem. I suspect that some part of the software hangs.

Dear Mikrotik! Please, repair the LTE modem. I plan to implement new sets and breaking up communication is very troublesome.

Hi Miencek,

Really tidy setup! Question, how do you connect an external antenna to the WAP LTE unit?

You should look here:

https://i.mt.lv/cdn/rb_files/guide_wapr ... 104404.pdf

I also have external antenna, without it device is quite useless, even basic huawei LTE stick is reaching far higher speeds without external antena in same location, but other features makes up for it (like external IP forwarding to other NAT device... which now is not working).

I have idea this CRAZY idea, why we do not have any changelog for R11e-LTE firmware and old files for the modem like for the rest of the Mikrotik stuff?

Have you tried out any of the HEX equipment? https://mikrotik.com/product/RB750Gr3

I have seen people use one of these with a USB LTE dongle plugged into it, would that would for your use case?

I have a few STX LTEs myself but would be interested to see how some of the gear works with other LTE chips/dongles

No its tricky, some dongles have built-in NAT with crappy performance. Actually my setup is WAP-LTE kit with Hex3 as a client, where normally Hex receives ip from the operator in pass-through mode.

R11e is not a bad product when it works, but it is a little bit tricky to squeeze out performance out of it.

Interesting, I haven't played around with the passthrough stuff.

I think the LTE interface is bridged to eth1 on my STX LTE, is there an advantage to enabling pass-through mode? Would a need a firewall then on the client/device on eth1 then?

Hello, everybody,
I have a question about r11e-lte.
After I updated the firmware to version MikroTik_CP_2.160.000_v012, the LTE connection breaks regularly at least twice a day. is it possible to downgrade the firmware?
greetings

I have big problems with wAP-LTE and R11e-LTE cards.

I use MultiAPN function with same APN (example present in wiki https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:I ... gh_Example ):

1st APN profile APN=MyApn user=user1 pass=pass1 passthru=no
2nd APN profile APN=MyApn user=user2 pass=pass2 passthru=yes int=ether1

This config work fine until reboot. After reboot sometimes LTE is UP, sometimes not work and lte card do nothing with "functionality = minimum"

After 5-6 reboots first R11e-card died (not seen in system - resources - usb), second R11e-LTE card "finding network" and go to "Unknown Status" infintly.
2 cards died ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ "MikroTik_CP_2.160.000_v013"

Sorry, this model can be upgrade only by itself lte1 with internet on it. Please change the SIM or ISP to get internet connection.
You can do the upgrade ROS before to stable=6.46.4 and repeat but in my opinion only change sim/isp can give you a internet.

Remember to not use dhcp server name - the same name in APN/ThroughtMode.

Disable ROAMING and be sure that operator is blank and APN have a proper name.
