wAP ac performace problem?

Fri Jul 05, 2019 8:19 am

I am testing a Mikrotik wAP ac bandwidth. I created a simply configuration on wAP: create a bridge, the bridge contain the eth1 and wlan2 ports. I set an IP to bridge1 and finally configure wifi settings on wlan2:
 name="wlan2" mtu=1500 l2mtu=1600 mac-address=B8:69:F4:F8:3E:4D arp=enabled
      interface-type=Atheros AR9888 mode=bridge ssid="MikroTik" frequency=5180
      band=5ghz-a/n/ac channel-width=20/40/80mhz-Ceee secondary-channel=""
      scan-list=default wireless-protocol=any vlan-mode=no-tag vlan-id=1
      wds-mode=disabled wds-default-bridge=none wds-ignore-ssid=no
      bridge-mode=enabled default-authentication=yes default-forwarding=yes
      default-ap-tx-limit=0 default-client-tx-limit=0 hide-ssid=no
      security-profile=default compression=no
When I connect to MikroTik wifi and I run a btest on my laptop to bridge1 IP address to wAP, the bandwidth is only60-70Mbps. The data rate is 866Mbps so I think the connection work on ac mode. Why is it the bad wifi bandwidth? I think it should be 400Mbps at least.

Thank You!

Always bandwidth test THROUGH the router, not ON the router. Run a local iperf server on your network and test to that. The CPU on these devices is not powerful enough to generate much traffic when using the built in bandwidth test tools.
