LHG LTE kit overampllification  [SOLVED]

Mon Jul 15, 2019 10:15 pm

Hi

I currently use a LTE modem to connect to my ISP and have to place it close to a window in the second storey to get a usable signal.

I am planning on buying the LHG LTE kit and mounting it on a mast but am concerned that it may suffer from overamplification if I move to a location that is closer to a tower.
Can overamplification become a problem with the LHG LTE kit?

Thanks

It can become a problem if you get real close to the tower. You can remedy that by turning LHG dish slightly away from the cell tower - the LHG has quite narrow antenna beam (making it high gain) but slight miss-alignment will give additional signal degradation if needed.

Most of LTE devices like to have RSRP around -60 dBm to -70 dBm for best performance. When choosing direction for miss-alignment, pay attention to RSRQ and choose the direction which results in highest (= the least negative) RSRQ while maintaining RSRP in preferred range.

Thanks for the information.
It would make it a lot easier if MikroTik mentioned the preferred RSRP range in the installation document.

Does a floor make some difference in this case?

Hahahaha, no, the floor was even worse.
I tried the coffee table, wall and ceiling but the window was the best.
The sofa was sort of ok, but it encountered a lot of interference from the wife.
I wanted to try it on the roof but the unit isn't roof compatible, hence the LHG LTE kit which is.
