Wireless Wire Dish alignment

Wed Nov 20, 2019 6:25 pm

Hi. I have several of Wireless Wire Dish PTP links in my town. I like these devices very much.

One of the links has its signal strength and MCS (on both sides) chaging dynamically with time. Signal strength sometime is 80, then drops to 50, then 60, and so on.., MCS sometimes drop from 8 to 5.
What could be the cause of this¿
The link HAS visual contact, but the Fresnel zone area is not totally clear, the enviroment is a dense urban, and the height / altitude of the antennas is not very generous at all.
Is it absolutely neccessary the dishes to be rock rigid still¿, could a little moving because of wind to disturb the link¿

I aligned these antennas with no proper instrumentation, just checking the signal strength with the quickset in the RouterOs

What is the proper and correct procedure to get the best alignment of these equipments¿
thank you very much in advance.

Yes and yes.

The signal drop from -80dbm to -50dbm is a huge difference.
So it seems your antenna goes wherever the wind goes...
The link HAS visual contact, but the Fresnel zone area is not totally clear
Since beamforming is used in the 60GHz models i dont think that this is a real problem.
Also the radiation pattern is :
< 1 degree single pattern and full span 3 degrees over horizontal and 3 degrees vertical plane
The radiation pattern is so narrow...

As the wiki suggests :
LHG60 devices require very precise alignment in order to get best performance in higher distances.
So imagine what can happen if they move because of wind...

I am also facing this problem in aligning such dishes because in w60 there is no alignment tool like in 5G and 2.4G
