Capsman provisioning speed

Wed Apr 08, 2020 1:36 pm

Hi,

Is there a way to make provisioning of Caps faster? I'm using CCR1009 and if I make any change in location with ~ 400-500 Caps it takes 30-45min to re-provision all of them. During that time they are idle.
Why does it take so long? It's not the CCR1009 CPU, it's always on few % tops.

Looking forward to any feedback!

I ve never seen any provisioning taking 30 or 45 minutes...
Do you see any errors in the log?

No, no errors. And it's not only one location.

Provisioning of one Cap takes ~5s. That gives us 12 per minute and 720 per hour. So with my locations having around 500 of them it's 40min to provision all of them.
That's A LOT of down time...

I ve never had to count the time my capsman takes to provision the APs but i am not sure if your times are correct...
Do you use certificates? If yes is the time the same if you do not require the certificates on your Capsman?
Does your CAP see the Capsman through Layer 2 or Layer 3 ?

If you check on Capsman -> Remote CAP, do you see all your caps there before they get reprovisioned or not ?
If you see them, sellect all and click the provision button...

OK maybe it's not correct what I'm saying. They are provisioned but it takes 5s per CAP to have active WiFi.
Not sure what's going on during this time, checking best WiFi channel?

One way or another it's done one by one - that's why it takes so much time.

So, all your CAPs are listed as provisioned under the CapsMan but they do not have WiFi ?
I am so confused

If I make changes to configurations I can push the changes out to all CAPs using this.

/caps-man remote-cap :foreach wap in=[find] do={provision $wap}

I used to disable and re-enable CAPSMAN to do the same but that was lame so I RTFM a bit more carefully.

*Edit* The above may not answer your question. But is a nice quick way to force changes to get adopted.

What is your provisioning action and what are your provisioning filters?

If you go to tools->profile is one CPU being maxed out while this happens?

For so many devices is the CCR1009 connected at at 1Gbit or 10GBit (SFP+?)

As an aside I have noticed all my CAPSMAN systems big and small when simultaneously uploading new firmware to the CAPs it maxes out at around 20-25Mbit total. I don't know if this is a deliberate limitation or the access speed to the flash or SDCard is this slow.
