Audience speed without mesh

Wed Apr 22, 2020 1:56 am

Hi,

We have a couple of heavy wi-fi users at our home, which may exshaust my hap ac's capabilities.
But I have a small home and would like a more powerful device, not meshing.

Is Audience a sensible replacement, or is as single-ap unit too similar to hap ac? Does audience have MU-MIMO or could it be implemented in near future, or are there hardware limitations?
I don't have a single user with 4x4 antennas, but I do have several hungry ones with 2x2.
Are there any real-life numbers what to expect in terms of speed? I can reach on my hap ac about 400mbit, but only if a single user is connected.

Thanks

Hi, I can share my experience for this Audience device, it doesn’t have MU-MIMO support yet but it has tri-band, it’s better for capacity than MU-MIMO for me, I see it as hardware MU-MIMO lol. When talking about 2x2 devices(most device are 2x2) both 5G band can do around 470mbps and 2G band around 100mbps in real life, total up is about 1040mbps simultaneously, which is maxed out gigabit connection. I don’t recall any dual-band device in the market can max out 1Gbps with 2x2 MU-MIMO so yes, it’s better for your need.

interesting insight, thanks. i, with my hap/wap ac have limited experience, but can you compare audience to anything else in terms of signal coverage, random drops....
or perhaps, since it uses 2 5ghz interfaces, can you see difference between them in speed or coverage? I understand also the secondary interface is 2x2, so a 2x2 ac client should be able to detect if one interface has a better coverage due to higher gain on antenna etc.

if 4x4 router is used with two 2x2 clients, does router assign two 2x2 streams, or is it not smart enough to do so? if not, can router be set, so that it simply creates two 2x2 networks instead of one 4x4?

anyone from officials around here, can you comment on mu-mimo or similar capability? is there a hardware limitation and will that never be implemented on audience, are there plans to do it, timeframe... ?

The coverage is great, much bigger than my cAP ac, connection is stable, most of my device's uptime is up to few days without disconnection (in wireless table, it shows like 3d 10:07:16). No you can't make 4x4 to 2x2 x2.
