RB532 with SR2 and SR5 -- how much power do i have to use?

Mon Jul 02, 2007 8:55 pm

Hi.
I have a RB532 with an Ubiquiti SR2 and SR5.

how much power do i have to use?

is it enough with a 48v 0.45a? or i should use 48v 1a?

and in case i want to use 60mts POE... with 48v, how much "a" should i use?

sorry for my poor english and i hope u can understand what i want to say. "v" stands for "volts" and i don't know the exactly word that "a" stands for in english... in spanish it's "amper"

we have many RB532's 2 x SR cards running on 48V .35A PoE's. They work fine.

how long is your PoE (meters of wire)?

my people is telling me that i'm crazy if i use 48v 0.45a with a 60meters PoE... they say i need 48v 5a... because the two SR need lot of power

Well,

Plug a PoE in with 60meters of CAT5 and see if the board powers up and functions properly.

I can tell you I have multiple RB532's some which have 90m PoE runs being powered by the same PoE I mentioned before..

POE-48i

48VDC @ 5amps is 240Watts of power (P = V*I).. That's enough to power most Desktop PC's. I guarantee you DO NOT need 240Watts to power a couple SR5 cards.

Like I said before the 48VDC @ 0.35Amps is plenty. The whole reason for using higher voltage (48VDC) is to reduce the amperage not increase it.
