MikroTik Home Network Setup

Thu Mar 11, 2021 9:09 pm

Hi all,

I am new to this forum so please, excuse me if I am asking you questions that already have been asked.

I bought MikroTik Router RB2011U1AS-2HnD-IN and 3x hAP ac2. My ISP router is in Bridge mode. On MikroTik RB2011 I already configured the PPPoE Client interface and all required configurations.
Also, I want to connect 3 hAP ac2 to the MikroTik router and configure them to "serve" a single SSID and all of them belong to the single subnet (the one configured on RB2011).

What is the best way to do that setup?

Thank you very much in advance!
Nice Regards,
D

The 2011 is from 2011. Can't you get a newer router?

Tik routers are all the same... Setup caps-man on the router and set your waps to caps-mode. The WAPs will become and extension of your router with all controls at the router.

Suggest put all wlans and ports on bridge for each device (except wan port on main router of course).
Avoid capsman until you are conversant in the WIFI and everything is working well. Its another layer of complication you may not need at the end.

I'd use one of hAP ac2 devices as main router, it'll run circles around RB2011 performance wise. If you really need number of wired ports (you'll need one for WAN and two for other two hAP ac2 devices), then use RB2011 as a (not exactly a great) switch.

Hi all,
I jus want to thank you all, for help. I have successfully deployed my home network. I set up MikroTik RB2011 as main router which have PPPoE client role. I configured CAPsMAN on that router also.
Then, I configured all three hAP ac2 as CAP and connect them to the main router and it works great. I host one SSID for 2.4 GHz and another SSID for 5GHz range.

Thank you one more time.
