solution for 23Mbit backhaul

Sun Sep 16, 2007 9:03 am

we have the opportunity to backhaul 23Mbit (1/2 DS3 to a nearby tower 1 mile away. We will shoot onto a busy FM tower. What is the miktoik solution for this? again, just one mile away, clear LOS.

That seemed to be more a discussion of linksys vs mikrotik.

I am more interested in knowing what kind of antennas are recommeneded.. frequency advantages of one over the other for a backhaul, recommend routerboard models and firmware... I find it hard to believe a 133C would be a good choice to try and obtain 23Mbit in both directions. We are a WISP, as most people here are, and while running a single speed test from one PC through a RB to another RB then PC may give decent results, our real world finding are showing that a RB112 can barely sustain 7Mbit up/down when serving 50 simultaneous users passing traffic. Perhaps the numer of active connections, which usually is < 1000...

In any case, feedback would be appreciated. We haven't really discovered a good backhaul formula yet, but hope to with your help.

Cheers!

RB333 is good for nstreme2. For antena use this calculator http://www.mikrotik.com/test_link.php

thanks for the tips. unfortunately, the 333 are still in a test phase and in the states we can only by them two at a time. This is going to be a mission critical feed, so I hoping not to "try it out" Has anyone had experience with the 333 as a reliable backhaul? How about the 532? Or is it best to use a PC?

I just got 2 333's in and one of them died after about 5 minutes (I'm really hoping it was just a fluke) so I'm waiting on the RMA to ship so I can build that link and I've got a pair of 133's here beside me ready to go excpet the Nstreme-Dual's not working so I'm hoping someone will see my post and tell me what bone-head thing I have over looked. The plan is to install the 133 based link this week or early next if possible so I'll let you know.
