Audience Mesh: Listing the Audience instances?

Sat Sep 10, 2022 11:39 pm

Hello,

Context: I have setup a Mesh wifi of 4 Audience units using the simple setup just pressing on the "WPS Sync" button. I would like to verify the status, including the RouterOS version.
Question: How can I list all the Audience unit of my mesh and verify their status? I couldn't find such a list using any of Winbox, WebFig, and the Mikrotik android app.

check the NEIGHBORS tab when you are connected in the LAN, you will see: Name/identity, Version, IP address, MAC address, Hardware Model

Do they show up as remote radios under caps-man?

Thank you very much for your help.

check the NEIGHBORS tab when you are connected in the LAN, you will see: Name/identity, Version, IP address, MAC address, Hardware Model
I connected my laptop with Winbox to the mesh wifi and only saw one single Audience unit in the "neighbors" tab, I only saw the Audience connected to the WAN (it is the unit the first Audience I setup). I didn't see the other units.
Do they show up as remote radios under caps-man?

I looked at various tabs of the CapsMan menu without seing the units but I'm not sure that I looked at a tab called "Remote Radios". I had to take my mesh units apart, I'll re-check during the weekend once I have set up the mesh again.

Re: Audience Mesh: Listing the Audience instances?

I deployed my mesh during the weekend, ensured every unit was on the latest version of routerOS (6.49.6) and it was a failure: even if the controller and repeater Audience unit where showing the green light indicating that the pairing was successful, the mesh network was completely broken:
  • Only the controller unit activated the user facing 2.4G and 5G wifi channels in addition to the backhaul channel when the repeater units were only activating the backhaul wifi channel
  • The repeater channels didn't appear in the Caps Man / Remote CAP list
  • I no longer succeed in resetting the Audience units to factory settings, all my "mesh repeater units" are now stuck in a config where they are started as a "mesh controller" with generated SSIDs and wifi password. I can verify this unexpected configuration using an ethernet cable on ETH2 of the "mesh repeater" units.
I came to the conclusion that the "WPS Sync button" doesn't work on my units as advertised in the docs making my Audience units not usable by "non Mikrotik specialists".

I opened an incident with my vendor to find a solution.

Thanks again for your help.

Have you looked in the MESH section by connecting to the main Audience via winbox? There is no mention of Capsman in the manual, why do you think that the devices should be looked in this section if no one has set it up?
How to reset the device to factory settings is shown in the manual, press the Reset button before power on and release it when the LED flashes.
The second way is by connecting through winbox to enter the system / reset the configuration.
If you managed to connect the repeater devices to the main one, it means that the wps button still works?

Thanks @Ca6ko for your help,
Have you looked in the MESH section by connecting to the main Audience via winbox?
I looked at this section in Winbox and it was surprisingly empty, suggesting that the QuickSet config may have not properly configured the Mesh controller unit.
How to reset the device to factory settings is shown in the manual, press the Reset button before power on and release it when the LED flashes.
The second way is by connecting through winbox to enter the system / reset the configuration.
I tried both of these reset procedure and when going through Winbox, I tried bit with the option "Keep default configuration" checked and unchecked.
I tried those procedures both with RouterOS 6.49.6 and 7.5.0.

Unfortunately, none of these solutions worked so I opened a support ticket with Mikrotik.
If you managed to connect the repeater devices to the main one, it means that the wps button still works?
I connected to the repeaters using an Ethernet cable on ETH2 and was assigned an IP address, I can connect both with Winbox and the web admin console.

I'm waiting for the guidance of Mikrotik support, looking for a solution to properly reset my units to factory settings and then try a clean slate setup with RouterOS 7.5.0 or trying any procedure I would be recommended to follow.

Re: Audience Mesh: Listing the Audience instances?

I found a solution to reset my Audience units and get the "WPS Sync" button to trigger a pairing with the controller unit.

The reset button didn't work for me (RouterOS 6.49.6 and 7.5.0) so I connected with Winbox on ETH2, launched a reset from Winbox and pressed on the WPS Sync button during the restart.

I now reproduce my problem of the paired repeater Audience units that don't listen on the user facing wifi channels but just on the backhaul channel, I'll create a separate thread for this challenge: viewtopic.php?t=189500.

Thanks again for your help.

Re: Audience Mesh: Listing the Audience instances?  [SOLVED]

To wrap up, the solution is: once I fixed the configuration problems of my mesh network of Audience units as explained on the forum thread linked below (1), I just add to connect to Winbox to the Audience Ccontroller, navigate to CAPsMan / Remote CAP and could see the list of all my Audience devices, both the controller and the repeaters.
