hAP ac² could not set or get any IP in CPE Mode on 2.4GHz

Fri Feb 10, 2023 12:54 pm

Hi all,

I want connect a hAP ac² with an existing 2.4 GHz WLAN.
With WinBox and Quick Set, I could not choose any 2.4GHz WLAN.
So I configured a wireless connection manually.
The connection is up and running, status fine with 144MBit.
But I can not set any IP Address.
If I set with WinBox an DHCP Client, I become an error:
"Couln't change DHCP Client <wlan1> - can not run on slave interface (6)" .
Then I set it up with Terminal and I can create the DHCP client, status is bound, but the
Client entry remains red although it get a correct IP but it dosen't use it.
I take a look in the 2.4GHz router and the connection is listed with a Address from Zeroconf range 169.254.x.x
Now I set a static IP in IP>Addresses for this WLAN Interface with 192.168.179, but the same result, IP at the 2.4 Router in range 169.254.x.x!
In the end the hAP ac² should act as Router with an 2.4 GHz WLAN WAN Interface.

I hope someone has an Idea where I do any mistake.

Hi, I had something similar happen to me when I was setting up min recently.

If you have a vertual wlan set up to repeat the signal, make sure that the ssid and password are the same as the original wifi signal.

This fixed my problem. Hope it fixes yours. If not, I'm afraidid I won't be much help but I'm sure others on here can.

"Couln't change DHCP Client <wlan1> - can not run on slave interface (6)" .
Is that WLAN interface a port on a bridge?
Then that interface is a slave interface, which has limited set of parameters. "DHCP", "interface list membership", "IP address" are all defined on the bridge.

Yes an IP address could be set on an interface that is a port on a bridge, Putting an IP address to a physical interface included in a bridge would mean actually putting it on the bridge interface itself;
(cfr: https://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Manual:IP/Address)
Interface membership for the interface could be set, but is NOT used. The membership of the bridge is used.
DHCP on the interface is checked for bridge-port and as such prohibited by WinBox/RouterOS.
