Defining the channel frequency on Wave2

Wed Jan 10, 2024 2:57 pm

On the old wireless configuration settings, you specified channel width on 5GHz as 20/40/80MHz with side channels, e.g. Ceee. The frequency was selected from a dropdown box and you could see the main channels in bold:

On Wave2, this has all changed. All you have to channel width is 20/40/80MHz and a text box for frequency that defaults to 2300-7300:

At the moment, I've not specified the frequency so I assume the automatic frequency scan is occurring. When you look at status, it reports the "old" format of 5500/ax/Ceee.

How would you configure it, for example, with those settings manually? The user interface seems a bit of a step backwards in some respects.

You can set frequency to the the central frequency of the desired 20MHz control channel. Extension channels are then automatically derived from this and the configured channel width.

I suggest using https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_WLAN_channels as reference.

Thanks for that - was confused by the default being a range. Put 5180 in and it's done what I expected. Looks like the side channel specification of Ceee, eCee, eeCe and eeeC has been dropped and it's always Ceee. So actually, a little bit simpler, not more complicated. Shame the dropdown box of the centre channels has gone but not end of world.

I already had that article bookmarked ;-)

As an aside, does anyone have a problem with "accept answer" (solved) button here? It doesn't appear to render correctly:

Supplemental information about side channels. The "base" channel 5180 is Ceee but if you specify the other frequencies in the other associated channels, you get the various side-channel options which used to be specifically configured on ROS v6/old Wi-Fi. This is the first four associated channels:

5180 - Ceee
5200 - eCee
5220 - eeCe
5240 - eeeC
