In the USA, BAMnet Corporation has outdoor networks covering several towns in both New Jersey and Florida using MikroTik hardware
exclusively.

In my country you can find up to 500 WISPs with Mikrotik technology....

For example in a small city with 30k people, you can find 3 WISPs with Mikrotik...

You can find same examples in Brazil, Chile, Uruguay...

I know there are some professional WISP, and many semi-professional, and amateur based WISP's in Denmark use MT gear, mostly for infrastructure.

We are two wisp's working together and have 2000+ costumers in our area.

do the math

2000 clients, suppose 40 clients by sectorial ptmp AP = 50 AP

suppose 3 AP per tower = 16 or 17 towers

suppose each tower serving 1 square kilometer = 16-17 square kilometers of service area

now you have to interconnect each tower to your core network using fiber or a ptp link etc

since 2012 we are running a WISP in the Netherlands and use 99% MikroTik in our network, growing to 8 POP's this year and still growing where the demand is.

Running VOIP, IPTV and Internet (Max 30/30Mbps) without issues..

We got MT certified in 2013 and this year managed to get Trainer status (1st in BeNeLux!) and will start giving MTCNA and MTCWE courses soon + doing some MikroTik consulting.

Hotspots in Nova Gorica have long history as the first point was operational in 2003. First it started as an experiment in local students club but after that the network was expanded to other organization, bars and restaurants around Nova Gorica. First the network was called kiWi-Fi network but after we decided to rename it to wlan.novagorica.eu as it is based in Nova Gorica.

Our hotspots broadcast SSID: wlan.novagorica.eu

Most of them is MikroTik.

That said, the tech who did the installation claimed he wasn't familiar with our gateway device. It's a hAP AC. Slightly scary. (I wasn't present for the install or I would have inquired further.) The AP they put up on the roof is a QRT 2, and most, if not all, of the routers along the way as well as their core router in San Luis Obispo, are MT.

Similarly in Greece there are many many Wireless Community Networks with the biggest one being AWMN - Athens Wireless Metropolitan Network. http://www.awmn.net
It consists of hundreds of backbone nodes running BGP (each node is a separate AS in BGP) and thousands of clients.
90% of the network is based on MikroTik since 2005. It used to be mainly x86 PCs but now most of the nodes moved to routerboards since they last much longer, can handle the Greek summers better, use less power (plus you don't need to send 220v to the roofs) and are generally easier to install and manage.
In terms of antennas, the majority of the network uses parabolic dishes (80+cm diameter) with custom made 5GHz feeders for point to point links and omnis or sectors for access points (for statically connected clients or hotspot users).

AWMN has been able to connect wirelessly with other communities so the network spans from Athens (central Greece) all the way to Kefalonia (western Greece) and Evoia (north of Athens) covering hundreds of square kilometers. And it's all community run/managed with no real central authority or ownership

As for the WISP part, I operate 200 APs in North Idaho and near-by Washington (kinda in the areas of Coeur d'Alene Idaho & Spokane Washington) . We have between 600 to 1000 Microwave clients. On Average, the wireless portion of my network draws around 1/2 gig of sustained bandwidth during peak rush-hour-high-demand hours.

All wireless equipment is Mikrotik using NV2. Most Mikrotik networks are 5 GHz, 1x1 , nv2 , N-Only , Horizontal Polarity , 3 to 25 km links. We offer 25 meg to 100 meg wireless accounts using Mikrotiks.

Every last weekend of the month, we disable all bandwidth rate limits for all customers. During this time, all customer (fiber and microwave) networks are wide-open go-as-fast-as-possible. Having a 10-gig Internet connection with thousands of customers running without any speed-limits will definitely but a huge bump in your total bandwidth consumption peak rates. During these weekends, most wireless customers can hit between 50 to 120 meg, and all fiber customers are suddenly all 1-gig accounts each.

I do these last-weekend-of-the-month un-limited-bandwidth periods to help me determine any potential problem areas in the network and to locate any possible points of congestion. Then we fix, upgrade or re-configure any problem areas. This helps to keep a fast running network for all customers month after month and year after year.

Well ... If there is a problem discovered during the wide-open unlimited-speed-end-of-month-weekend, then we determine if the problem can be fixed at that moment -or- stop the unlimited weekend speeds and fix in the next couple of business days -or- if we can continue the unlimited speeds end-of-month speeds and fix in the next couple of business days.

All ISPs and WISPs have a certain level of potential bottlenecks and weak areas in their networks. This is why we do the unlimited speeds during the last weekend of the month , so that we can discover potential issues under heavier than normal customer loads.

These special weekends help us determine if any work/upgrades/maintenance needs to be performed on our Internet feed -or- our internal core network -or- on any last-mile network connections to customers.

Also of note --- If/when we get a call from a customer stating that it was very fast over the last weekend and now it is slow (after the special weekend), then we explain the last-weekend-of-the-month and offer up-sell suggestions to the customer to upgrade their account to a faster speed account.

- for total Internet bandwidth, on average , I might see a 10 % sustained increase
- for the average customer (with 10 meg or faster accounts) , I may see a 5 % sustained increase
- for the average slowest account we offer customer , I may see a 5 % to 50 % sustained increase
*** The above is the average for ALL customers ***
In general , must customers do not change their Internet bandwidth usage when we do the end-of-the-month wide-open speeds. However, a few customers might bandwidth shoot through the roof - but the average remains at stated above. It is the customers who have bandwidth shooting through the roof that are the ones I want to call me and ask why there were soooo fast - this gives me the opportunity to upsell.

FYI - Although we do the unlimited last-weekend-of-the month , If another ISP/WISP wanted to try the same thing, they don't necessarily need to go full-on unlimited, they could make it 2x or 4x the customer normal purchased bandwidth. This could help prevent the ISP/WISP from over subscribing their networks and could generate customer calls which could then be made into customer upsells to purchase a faster account.

FYI - When we do the unlimited-bandwidth end-of-the-month weekend, I have just 5 mouse-clicks needed to set the new mode -and- after , 5 mouse-clicks to return to normal. I just disable the Captive-Portal bandwidth rate settings on my in-office customer-upstream-gateway servers. I do not re-configure each customer device one-by-one, that would take me forever.

Thanks, that is very interesting. I always wanted to know what people would do with huge amounts of bandwidth. Make sense just a small change: above a given limit it makes not that difference in practical (and home) use.

As Network Consultant, I always deployed MikroTik OS base Wireless as PTP, PTmP...
100% Working fine in all kind of Environment ( Cold, hot, Fog, Smock, high wind etc..)

If there is Interference, there is only one way to get better ccq! Use free channel, is there is no free channel, use better Antennas, but with better Antenna spectrum doesn’t gets better!

They are all over the world. here in the US they are widely used in rural areas where the large cable based ISPs often don't see the cost as being worth their effort. This is where small ISP providers are literally a lifeline for many communities.

IDN if we count as a WISP, we have a fiber backbone and use wireless to the home. We use Juniper and Ruckus on the back and Mikrotik at the customer level, except the gateway at multi unit as Routeros 802.1X port level radius auth is a joke.

Currently just under 1000 Mikrotiks in service

All connections are unmetered.

Serving Greenfield MA (pop. 18K) and have many towns in New England and New York interested in us providing service.

So here in South Africa MT get's utilized a lot. I work a big Mikrotik Distributor. Can't give out customer information, but I can say that we sell tons of Mikrotiks and the people love it. UBNT and MT is on par almost in South Africa.

Just started a new WISP in Papua New Guinea.

I'd like to say we are 100% mikrotik, but given many reasons we've gone with ubiquiti radios and antennas. Mikrotik still sit at our (decentralised) core, about 8 RB1100's deployed for tower and relay sites, doing PPP termination and OSPF. Mikrotik still very much run our network, and boy do I wish I could have used mikrotik radio's because Winbox is so much better than airOS web management (especially over 500ms satellite links), but Ubiquiti's offerings seem to work just that much better in the noisy environments.

South African WISP here, 100 Clients in Tshwane, and almost 1000 Fibre Clients, Using RB2011UiAS for Client terminations in Durban and North Coast of KZN.
Juniper for Core router, otherwise just Mikrotik and ubiquiti..

We are MT wisp since 2006, two small cities in south Sweden.
All kinds of MT devices, from RB333/RB411->RB800, SXT/Sextant to Dynadishes, CRS switches and CCR as core routers. Some cisco asa5520 for road warrior and ubiquity for many home installations.

Grand Avenue Broadband in Wickenburg, Arizona USA, was until recently a 100% MikroTik WISP with >200 subscribers in three towns. In the past nine months, a number of the wireless units (some AP sectors and long PTP links) have been replaced with more effective competitive radio equipment, but the bulk of the network remains MikroTik based.

You are asking the wrong question.

MikroTik has an active distribution network of over 700 companies across some 140 countries. In order to purchase hardware directly from MikroTik you need to purchase X USD p/a worth of hardware. Based on RRP published on their website you'd be able to deduce a conservative estimate.

You should be trying to find the value of X.

Of course, they may not all be WISP's.

Still running, diminished a bit over the last few years, big fiber roll outs not helping business also. 98% Mikrotik, some of the back hauls were upgraded to 24Ghz gear (with Mikrotik 5Ghz backups). Windsor (and surrounding area), Ontario, Canada. Been expanding more into MSP work (using Mikrotik equipment mostly), providing internet backup services and web-hosting.
