sfq unfair on wireless

Thu Jan 29, 2009 7:30 pm

Hi,

I've seen the effect that a single filesharing user "killed" a segment.
He's limited to 3M/384kBit by wireless Access list. So the segment
does only carry 3M but all clients had 300-500ms ping-times.
Segment is on a RB600 5GHz. Signals are good. CPU is 50%.

I experimented and changed the Queue-Type "wireless-default" from
sfq (default) to bfifo -> Pings go down to 2-20ms on this segment
Bandwith usage increases.

I've only 4 simple queues for 4 clients on another segment of this
RB600. No Queue-Tree. So this shouldn't matter.

Any Idea why sfq is unfair in this situation?

Hello

SFQ algorithm must be able complex and requires lots of CPU load. Guess that is the reason for the latency.

I remember i was trying to experiment Vlan with RB 433 and CPU load was about 73%. I could not finish my test.

Please whats ur CPU load with BFIFO ?

ciao

30% carrying 10MBit at the moment. But it was not a cpu problem. Pings to clients at the other segments
of this box was at 3-10ms.
