Interesting find regarding low signals w/RB333

Fri Feb 06, 2009 5:25 pm

I've noticed one of my towers performing badly. All signals around 15-20 db lower than normal. It was a RB333, omni, and XR2. First thought was a bad XR2 card; after swapping it out there was no change. Upgraded software and firmware on RB333, still no change. Grasping for straws, I swapped out the RB333 with a RB433. I didn't expect it to be the fix, but that was it. We kept the same XR2 card in it. All signals improved, some around 20db. Is this an issue with some RB333 boards? Anyone else seen anything like this.

Hmm... I might be experiencing something like this, but I'm very skeptical that it would be the router board causing this. Could you try putting a different RB333 in place to see if the problem comes back?

I to would be skeptical of a RB333 causing this, however with that said it isn't impossible but it would be due to a defective RB333. If the RB333 was not powering the card with the correct power all kinds of strange things happen. I've had a few situations where a RB532A with XR5 did something equally odd (connection would drop for no apparant reason with great signals) and it turned out to be the RB532A was not powering the card correctly

I wouldn't run out and start replacing your RB333s anytime soon, they are great boards and have been very reliable for me.

Cheers

I've seen routerboards affect signal.

Not just 333 but all different ones.

I normally bench test as a kit (board + radio card) then write in it what result was.

I believe that it was probably a problem with the 333 board. It is the only time
I've ever seen it. Was wondering if the 333 boards are susceptible to this type
of problem.
