Ahhhh... and the truth surfaces. They have had working 802.11n support for long enough to develop, test and validate these cards yet they say they don't have viable 802.11n support or that they're waiting for the final standards. Sounds like they'd just rather not have you use the SR71's. Bad move since I know a lot of people who would have rather used Mikrotik hardware with the Ubiquiti cards starting months ago but instead had to go to a complete solution from another provider.

Hopefully they'll have some results out soon. Maybe a release of RouterOS with some 802.11n support built in as well. Hopefully it was worth putting off customer demands in exchange for developing your own hardware. Regardless of how we've got to this point, at least we're finally close to ready for an 802.11n rollout with Mikrotik gear.

From all the tidbits recently it looks like 802.11n support in RouterOS is imminent, which is great news.

I hope that is not the production design.

Why ?

- It does not have MMCX connectors
- From the product name it sounds like it is dual band

I would prefer a design more similar to the Ubiquiti SR cards, with MMCX connectors and single band operation, e.g. R5N for 5Ghz and R2N for 2.4Ghz

I'll believe it when MT announce it.

Haha I'm not too fussed really, I just wouldn't be using the card shown above in outdoor installations as I consider the U-FL style connectors are just far too flimsy.

If they released a R5N similar to the R5H I would be a very happy man.

Mikrotik people he has sent the FCC a mini-pci card that works in MIMO to be evaluated technically and obtain approval of such an entity. The FCC is the Federal Communications Commission of the United States.

Is not yet on sale, there are no reviews available information, only what has been published and approved a few days to make the FCC, but according to comments in some forums said that Mikrotik is working internally with a module for the v4. 0 to work with this card MIMO, so we see what happens in the next few days

the question seems to be a bit silly, but we tested n card with one antenna. it works, but not propertly enought... such as 50% of usual card.
i do not recommend to waste a time to do such tests

I guess I never checked if mimo would work in 5mhz/10mhz channels. I quit.

Don't bag on the UFL connectors too much. From what I've read, the MMCX, while more convenient / reliable / un-frustrating tend to act as stronger antennas causing more cross talk between themselves. I'm guessing the UFL connector was a concious design choice to allow better separation and less interference between the two connectors.

802.11n is nice, but what I really need is the RB616 with higher CPU speed, a little more RAM (or dimm slot) and really good layout so I can run R5H's in all 6 slots.

Imagine having an RB616 as a Distribution node. 200mbit 802.11n link back to your data centre and 5xR5H on parabolic dish. Or 802.11n to other distribution nodes, MPLS, a switch and RB433's out to your POP's.
