Mikrotik 4.x nstream still broken

Sat Jan 30, 2010 1:47 pm

Hello

I would like to share some information i got on 4.0-4.5 version.
These version are broken. 4.0 - 4.4 have big problems with connection stability on
long links or not perfect signals, propably not enough retries to send.
After upgrading to 4.5 everything looks like its fixed but its not.
I did some tests on 30km link, 27km link, 4km links with huge interference.
There is signifiant stability loss still.
Same conditions:
1.)
30km link, perfect los, full fresnel, some interference.
Link worked fine for like 5 months, using nstream, 36tx/36rx mostly, ccq 60/60 at busy hours, real 20mbit performance, that was data from 3.2x versions. After upgrading to 4.5:
tx/rx jumping like mad, ccq is jumping like mad, at busy hours its way more worse. Little performance drop, and connection is not rock solid. there are sometimes: not polled for too long, before upgrade link uptime was about 30 days, now it wont go higher than 6 hours.

2.)
27km link, barely having los, fresnel like 50-60%, lots of interference, signal is about -81 on both sides at high power cards, using nstrean, while it been at 3.2x link worked without drops, performance was like real 6Mbit but was stable. After upgrading to 4.5, link no longer want to work with nstream enabled, connection drop every 10 sec, only disabling nstream did help, performance looks better.

3.) 4km link, insane interference (+100 scaned) ,nstream yes, perfect los/perfect fresnel. at 3.2x link worked stable at 24tx/24rx and ccq jumping 30-50% at busy hours, signal was -71 on 23dbi antenas.
Connection was stable but performance was low. Afrer ugrading to 4.5, link stoped working with nstream at busy hours, ccq was like 6-10% and was way more worse than 3.2x, strange like ccq at first look dont depends on software but more like link conditions. Swithing off nstream did help there but performance was low. Only way was to make it working was to use high gain antennas and manage like -59 signal, since this it started working good on 4.5 nstream.

Nstream is still broken in 4.5, also its less interference resistant. If link worked stable for years and changing to 4.5 causes instant problems, I can say its broken.
