Mon Mar 15, 2010 12:44 am

Hello guys, I would like to listen to your oppinions on this link:

Point A
Latitude 10°32'25.76"N
Longitude 66°52'51.45"W

Point B
Latitude 11°47'21.53"N
Longitude 66°36'42.09"W

The link is 150Km in length, point A is a very high mountain about 2000 mts above sea level and point B is an island with a small mountain and a 10mt tower.

I think its possible too, I would be using XR5 and 33.4 dBi antennas which should give me a signal level at the RX site of -62.20 dBm

What do you think guys?

Be careful with fresnel zone + earth corbeture. I think you need more altitude in point B.

I have not looked a the link but providing you have clearance technically it will work. The issue becomes reliability which calculates out to 84% (with a 3ft 32dbi dish)... not good in my books. The thing is that there is a bit of magic involved and this link could work with out issue for years, then again it cold drop every few minutes or be fine for a few years then start to drop.

If you do construct this link, use the biggest antenna you can get, a 6ft will get you 99% still not good for a back haul (which should be at least 99.9% or better), bigger yet would be better but the dishes start to get very pricey. At least with 6ft (and a -50) it should at least provide for some stability.
