Public IP behind Wireless Station Mode. Is it possible ?

Tue Mar 16, 2010 5:37 pm

Hi,

I could not find any tutorial about Wireless Routing setup, which had topology as follow:

Internet _____ RB411A (AP Bridge) ----- RB411A (Station) _____ PC client

I do not want to use wireless bridging because of security reason. So I prefer to use wireless routing. And PC Client must be using Public IP.

Please help me how to configure this topology.

Thanks in advanced

Use WDS station for the client and WDS dynamic on the Ap or you have to run NAT on the station interface which would make difficult to use a public IP behind it

sure if you have routed network, u must ask to your ISP to creat a route to your border router.

Example

Internet (isprouter)-------- Router ------ RBXX ))))) (((((( PC client

in the isrouter they must add a route, ip route add xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/yy via ROUTER_IP

in your site, if u are goin to use a /30 per client assing the router local side interface one of the free IP and then to the client the other

I got /24 from my ISP. And my ISP already routed to my core router.

But my topolgy is:
Internet (isprouter)-------- My Core Router ------ RBXX1 ))))) (((((( RBXX2 ------- PC client

My question is what setting should I make for RBXX1 ))))) (((((( RBXX2 ?
RBXX1 as AP Bridge, right ?
RBXX2 as Station, right ?
And how to configure routing beetwen ether1 & wlan1 in RBXX2 ?

Thanks

Isn't the point of a public Ip to be reachable? If you are worried about security why not use a private IP. But if you want a public I would bridge your interfaces eth1-BR-wlan1-AP-BRIDGE ---- WDS-STATION-wlan1-BR-eth1 then just configure the Public IP on the device connected to the eth1 of the station
