Has anyone tried a deployment with rohn telescoping masts?

Wed Apr 14, 2010 4:38 am

I'm looking for a cheap tower solution that can be deployed by one to three people in the field. Locations would be reachable by backpack, atv or utility vehicle.

the rohn h50 looks like a decent idea for low money and low weight. My concern is servicing radios if necessary. I suppose the radios could be mounted lower down and lmr run up to the antennas...

Has anyone tried a telescoping mast deployment like this?

Tipicaly I use integrated solutions, N-type connectors need clear each 1-2years. Towers I make always myself, welding equipiment and 2-3 day work and I got 12-18m servicable tower depend on my requiremet. For example 12m tower cost not exceed some 90-100$ There is some photo If you locate somewhere nearly I can make one for you with good price :))

So I've decided that although the telescoping idea is cheap and efficient (Even though I would have to slide the mast down to work on an ap) I don't know how to work the vertical tilt on a radio. I can only do so much with the guys to 'tip' the tower.

Also I've learned that I can't 'spin' the mast to tune left and right as the mast has pins that go through to secure them.

Thought I'd post back.
