Symbol scan gun issues

Mon Apr 19, 2010 8:08 pm

I work part time with a wireless internet provider and we use Mikrotik for all of our APs and backhauls.
So in my full time job, I decided to use Mikrotiks in our warehouse environment.
We are currently in the process of upgrading to a warehouse management system involving Symbol MC9090-g scan guns.
Laptops are able to roam between the Mikrotik APs along dropping a packet or 2 when they switch, however
the scan guns will change from AP1 to AP2 and the then no network activity for minutes before they finally
start working again. I can see them make the switch and they associate just fine with the APS, just no network activity.
The company that is helping set up the system is blaming it on the "Latvian" equipment
we are using, of course. They would prefer us buy their $1200 Symbol APs and call it done.

Has anybody here had issues like this with scan guns (barcode readers)?
I have tried just about all settings I can think of. Tried WDS, changing RTS, etc...
Nothing seems to get these guns to reconnect when switching from AP to AP.

I have over 3000 of the Motorola 9090 handhelds working on both Cisco 1242AG Access Points and on the Motorola 5131 Dual Radio access points. I have just started to use the Mikrotik RB411AR for Hotspots at my retail locations. Ask for motorola support and get the latest Fusion driver (radio driver) for the 9090. There are many bugs in the old driver including a roaming issue that was bugging us too on their own Motorola Access points. Also I get the Motorola 5131 dual radio Access points with POE injector for $450 if you can talk to Motorola them selves they make great deals on hardware and software support.

That fixed the problem. We installed Fusion v2.57.0.0.022B last night and our roaming issues disappeared.
All is working great with our Mikrotik's.

Thanks for the suggestion on updating the handhelds.
