UFL male to MMCX Connectors or change the pigtail

Mon Sep 13, 2010 6:32 pm

Hello!

I buyed some Poynting WLAN-A0056 and 57 Mikropoynt boxes, wich comes with UFL connectors soldered to the antenna. As I need to put in a RB411AR, I need to change this UFL connector to a MMCX connector, because new boards come with MMCX.

What is better and cheaper?

1.- Change the UFL connector by soldering one MMCX. (I don't know how to do this and if later the antenna will work as designed)
2.- Buy a pigtail with UFL male to MMCX (I don't know if this exists)
3.- Use the RB411AR with an external card with UFL connector. (More expensive..)

Thanks!

Every connection drops signal...

My brother (A Motorola RF tech) claims it is about 3db loss per connection..

So... from a RF standpoint, change the pigtail.. or add the card.

For me it's easy solder u.fl and one capacitor on 411. It cost only few cents. About attenuation you are right, typical u.fl pigtail los is close to 3dB@5GHz , MMCX is lightly better.

Hi,

I think using the pigtail cable is more convenient thought it will be a little loss.
You can use the very lead patch, just like length 40mm

Of course ,the pigtail cable IPX and MMCX exists. You can find all the pigtail cable as your requested connectors by this customized RF Cables: http://www.rfsupplier.com/CustomCoaxWizard.php

Hope it will help for someone other! :D

See you later!

If the patches (antennas) are PCB material with rear ground and a UFL soledered to it, it expects a pigtail with UFL in one side. New RB411AR have MMCX. So get rid of ufl soldered to PCB and solder a MMCX pigtail there.

I took a look at the boxes and they're thin, both ufl & mmcx are normally 90°. So soldering the pigtail to the antenna will require some care with the minimum bent ray of the coax cable.

Can you upload a close up pix of the antenna ufl connector?

Regards;

Hi Marcus,

Would you like to connect the antenna(IPX connector )with New RB411AR(MMCX connector)
You can just need the pigtail cable IPX to MMCX to connect with them.Or please just change the connector of your antenna, using the antenna with base.

I took a look at the boxes and they're thin, both ufl & mmcx are normally 90°. So soldering the pigtail to the antenna will require some care with the minimum bent ray of the coax cable.

The cable is cable 1.13mm,1.37mm that are very flexible.

Can you upload a close up pix of the antenna ufl connector?

I am not sure whether the antenna is ok for you.See the wifi antenna with the IPX.Ufl by this link: http://www.rfsupplier.com/product_info. ... cts_id=889

See the wifi antenna with MMCX male connector :

So, how did you go? Or did you go for rb711-5Hn-U. Cheaper and u.Fl connector....
