7km wireless link @5.8ghz R52H+27dbi ant vs R52+30dbi ant

Which will perform better for 7km Crowded 5.8ghz link?

I need about 20Mbps+ half duplex

RB411 + R52H + 27dbi Grid antenna

or

RB411 + R52 + 30dbi Grid antenna

Your advice appreciated.

take bigger antenna, is always better.
Because receive gain is better.

I choosed the Rb411 + R52 + 30dbi grid antenna combo

Today the link was up, and with hours of configuration I only can get max 5mbps throughput.

What card should I try next, r52h/r52hn/xr5 ?

any advices appreciated. thanks.

nvm, with nstreme, polling, and disable csma I could get 20Mbps half duplex.

I use XR5 cards and find them very good
Which will perform better for 7km Crowded 5.8ghz link?
If you have a crowded 5.8ghz then interference or co-channel could effect performance of any link using 5.8, I would consider using a different frequency?

Try RB711 + 27dbi grid combo (or 44cm parabola). The best way..

I suggest UB5 cards, and 411aH.
Rb411 is for maximum of 30Mbps. So in the future you have no options.
Rb411ah is much better, and not so expensieve.
Try nstreme with exact isze (4000), turbo, special freq (5740,5760,5840).

At all grid is not a quite good option for long distance link.
But if you have no other choice, 30dbi grid should be good.

r52h/r52hn is always better than r52(has very little power for such long distance throw).
At all grid is not a quite good option for long distance link.
But if you have no other choice, 30dbi grid should be good.
I would like to know why grid is not a good option for a 7km link.

Grids (or Dish) are the best choice for any link because of two advantages over panel antenna is their high gain and narrow acceptence angle, and this narrow acceptence angle can help with reduction in interference or co-channel pickup by stations off beam?

Grid collects many noises from near location, and if its peer are far, its signal/noise rate falls.

So far I have never had problems with Grids. and dishes r heavy carrying to heights. Neways its just personal exp.

?? Maybe someone has done side by side gain and signal to noise comparsion between grid and dish,
Another consideration is, if located on a high and exposed location is the wind loading factor by a dish,
Where you can mount a grid on any mast, a dish will require a more substancial and heavy duty mounting otherwise in stormy weather the dish will go off alignment.

Yes, dish requires more money and more stable antenna holder.
Thats a fact. But it was about the link, not about the cost.
Higher quality most of cases means higher cost.

You think BIGER is BETTER?
You cant solve your ignorance with bigger antenas or stronger cards.

Please start with looking on tha area:
do you have free sight ?
free fressnell area ?
do you have some reflection materials nearly or in the link direction?
etc.................

Than discover for another wirelles:
how noisy is your area?
did you find some "clear" channel?

Configuring link
did you some indoor performance tests of your configuration?
is there some another limitation, like cpu speed, forgoten que
....... try to think about

Finding solution / find what is wrong
CPU load too high
Low signal compared to calculated "should" values
Wrong CCQ
Good signal but low modulation

So what is wrong on your link ?


R52 + 27dBi antenas
hmmm ... do you have -56/-56dB signal ? if not, try to start with finding wire, aligment or another problem.

for 7km link you dont need this "extra" power, and "TOO BIG" antenas makes just too strong input sensitivity, and the cards must just listen to too strong signal form another sources (too much noise)

R52 + 24dB antenas is enough avaiting -62/-62dB anough for good link

try antenas like that Image for better noise imunity from nearby sources.
