NV2 & PPPOE

Thu Jun 16, 2011 4:56 pm

Please for your help and suggestions.

The implemented configuration is a central 433uah AP and PtMP connections with SXTs (total 4 units) using NV2 protocol.
PPPOE also used for users registration.

The problem is that during the day and occasionally some sxt disconnect with the below errors.

I suspect it is a wireless related issue, however the bizzare issue is the recursive authentication failures. (Finally connected.)

Can you propose something to resolve issue?

Re: NV2 & PPPOE

Fri Jun 24, 2011 12:02 pm

Problem insists and I noticed that whenever this happens no disconnection occurs for wireless interface so it seems that this is related to pppoe server configuration.

I've set the the-one-session-per-host=yes and I increased the keep-alive-timeout to 30 sec instead of default 10. However problem insists. At least one disconnection event occurs on 24 hours basis. :?

Does anyone have similar configuration with PtMP, nv2 and pppoe server???

Note that I've also kept the default values for MTU size.(1480)

Any other configuration propositions appreciated.

What RouterOS version you are using on all your SXTs and AP?
What are the distance between AP and the SXTs?

Thanks for your replies :)

I use latest v.5.4 version (and will be upgraded to 5.5 on coming days).

Most SXTs reside at 15Km distance having SNR 20-21. (same happens for a single sxt with snr 25-26). And signal strength -75 to -81.

Do you think that such distance might be the reason for this behavior?

I was using band A/N and now after changing to N-only behavior has been eliminated to one or two disconnection events every 48 hours.

I have also configured user manager on the centralised 433uah.

Dear
User

Let me tell you that I had this problem when we start to use NV2 but we detect that this situation was for two reason.

1.- Interference: but some time we detect that we not have an interference and we change
the Mikrotik Radio on the AP and we use R5H because have more filter and the signal the
user get better but only that on the city, because we use the R52Hn outside of the cities
and work ok

2.- Wlan configuration: We change the parameters Hw retries to 9 on the
Interface/Wireless/Advanced and we notes that after to change this parameters we not
have any more the control frame message or our NV2 client not disconnect always when
we have a interference

3.-Adaptive Noise Immunity: Whe change this situation on the User and only that we use Client
mode

We have more than 1500 user using NV2 and we not have a problem at the moment we have other problem.

If you need more information about its please let me know.

Hi wiyat, thanks for your reply.

I've applied the Hw retries change and value updated to 9.

I'll monitor behavior on coming days and I'll let you know with the results.

thanks again. :)

Hi again.

I tested the Hw Retries parameter with value 9 as suggested but disconnections insist. :?

Now regarding nv2 protocol I also read other threads with people facing same problem.

http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=52937

Furthermore the below thread shows that Hw parameter is ignored on nv2 and actually not applicable.

http://forum.mikrotik.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=48242

I hope new ros releases will give the solution.
