PPPoE with day night bandwidth limits

Tue Sep 20, 2011 6:45 pm

At present we use each AP PPPoE server with profiles that set the bandwidth for each Cpe client pppoe but is there any way to incorporate day night bandwidth control like http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Limit_Dif ... _and_Night into the pppoe profile

Could just use simple queues as suggested on you concentrator and disable bandwidth control on your pppoe. Unfortunately you would have to create queue for each pppoe.

Thanks for the reply - could the queues be done on the CPE rather than at AP concentrator as i would if possible offload any tasks to the cpe if practical. So for example set the AP pppoe concentrator at say 4Mbit bandwidth profile and on the CPE use the queue day night bandwidth to reduce it down to 1Mbit.

Would be even better, that way you also lighten the load on your network since traffic is limited before it reach your backbone. Just a bit more logistically intense, you would have to access each cpe and put code on it and also if you want to change any thing, it might become a shlep.
