wireless repeater setup

Sat Nov 05, 2011 12:34 am

Hi Folks.
I'd like to have the following setup:
1 RB with two wireless cards [wlan1 receiving the wireless signal....wlan2 re transmitting the signal to clients]
extending the current wireless network.

nothing else connected to the RB
Ideally ...without wds, (if possible) in router mode to give clients a dif. ip range

If not possible: using WDS to connect to main WLAN.

thanks in advance, all or any help will be appreciated

Alright ! wasn't very helpful... but thanks anyway. I think everybody checks on the wiki before post a Q here...

Here's is the answer if anybody else ran into the same "problem"

The wlan1 (receiving) has to be configured as a "pseudobridge station" otherwise it wont work ..then the usual conf. for bridges

In this way you don't need to use WDS where is not necessary

Actually, NO, most people do not check the wiki first.

Also, the wiki clearly tells how the pseudobridge station works:
station-pseudobridge - Same as station, but additionally perform MAC address translation of all traffic. Allows interface to be bridged.

That won't work. Both cards cannot work on the same frequency. You'll have LOADS of interference problems if you do so. So the 2nd radio should work on a different frequency....

And indeed, most starter users of this forum don't look in the wiki and manual before they ask, otherwise the forum would not have half the amount of posts.....
