RB711G-5HnD and 711UA-2HnD rebooting issues

Tue Dec 13, 2011 8:49 am

Wasn't sure if I should post this here or in hardware so I posted in both forums.

I am getting reboots on the above two boards the 5HnD is running 5.9 and the 2HnD is running 2.10 both with latest firmware.

System critical router was rebooted without proper shutdown (cause 1) on this 5HnD board and also have started having it on the 711UA-2HnD board since I upgraded it to 5.10.

There has to be something within ROS causing this because these boards are at two different physical locations and in both cases these boards are on battery backup systems with other Router boards and none of the other boards rebooted.

To rule out power supply issues I swapped power supplies with another one that was powering a 411 with an R52Hn card and the reboot issue stayed with the 5HnD board and on the 2HnD I swapped from an 18V ps to a new 24V ps the issue remains on it also.

Anyone else having issues?

Thanks,
Chadd

was it rebooting with older RouterOS versions?
Those boards are running Nv2 wireless protocol?

Uldis,

These are new units to me so I upgraded them to 5.9 before they were deployed so I don't really know. I have sent you some support output files on the ticket we have had open for quite a while. I have ran both NV2 and Nstreme and the reboots persist with both.

I downgraded the 2HdN to 5.8 earlier tonight and it was still rebooting. I really don't know what the issue is, all I know is this stuff is wearing on me in a bad way. I am getting tired of dealing with all the problems with ROS and RB hardware. I have been sending in support files for a better part of this year for problems with disconnects and NV2 and the problems still exist.

The bottom line is.. Are you guys going to be able to fix these problems or not? If yes what is the status and when do you expect to have them fixed?

Sorry for the rant but I am getting tired of losing sleep and spending way too much time trying to work around these issues.

Thanks,
Chadd

Well I ended up downgrading all the way back to 5.6 and 2.36 FW and knock on wood I haven't had a reboots in close to 4 hours now.

Normally I would have had a few reboots within that time frame. So I hope this temporarily takes care of my issue.

I have sent in quite a few support output files but haven't heard back from support yet.

I am thinking there may be something jacked up with the 2.37 FW for the 711's. I will update tomorrow as to whether or not I have anymore reboots, if I don't have any reboots I may try to upgrade the OS without changing the firmware to see if it is indeed FW or not.

Thanks,
Chadd

It has been just about 8 hours with no reboots, fingers are still crossed.

Ok it has been right at 24 hours and the 2HnD has not had a single reboot, the 711G-5HnD had one reboot @~20 hours but has been fine since then so I am not sure whats up with the one reboot.

It definitely appears that there is something in the 2.37 FW that was causing my reboots. I plan on upgrading back to 5.11 from 5.6 on the OS but leaving the FW at 2.36 to see what the results are.

Thanks,

Another update, I upgraded the 711UA-2HdN to 5.11 and left the FW at 2.36 and it has ran an additional 24 hours with no reboot. That makes 48 hours total with no reboot on the 2.36FW. The 711G-5HnD has ran 28 hours with no reboot on the 2.36FW also, as I mentioned above it rebooted @20hrs after downgrading but it has been stable since then.

The only changes have been to down grade the FW from 2.37 to 2.36.

I think I've found the solution... :D :D
After more time spent on changing the power supply...I have a terrible headache, and the problem was in front of my face... :D

When you upgrade your routerboard the frequency of the cpu is set to 100MHz for some reason (probably due to version 5.11 or firmware revision 2.7), so the first thing you have to do is re-set the default frequency.

Let me know if you resolve.

I received a beta 2.37 FW from MT support and havent had any issues with the new firmware. So for me at least it appears there was an issue with the 2.37 release firmware.

Sorry for my error no version 2.7 but release version 2.37.

Probably there are some error in 2.37 release firmware or 5.11 firmware, in fact, the frequency of the CPU doesn't stay stable...

On my last login the CPU frequency was setted to 250MHz, and Winbox (ssh works great) can't able to login (Connection Refused) after reboot the mikortik works great.

So, something that not very stable was found in this version of firmware (2.37 or 5.11).

Thanks

Andrea

Ps sorry for my bad english
