Which is the better approach? Bandwidth control in customer equipment or central control using a radius server? Pls provide pros and cons. Thanks.

I use the access list on the AP with QoS configured on almost every device.

We use radius/usermanager, The ACL is fine for smaller networks but centralized control is much less work if you have a lot of aps. So would not do it on the client.

I had tried to get UserManager to work on my X86 system but I could not . I guess I have to get a radius server. Thanks.

what problems did you have, been running one site on a pc and another on a 411ah... you can put about 200 clients on a 411 board. It can handle more then that but would recommend using the one with the usb port and adding some extra memory via a stick. You should have no issues, X86 can on occasions be a bit more of a problem depending on the cpu, chipset and NIC you are using, it has worked perfectly on all the boards we have used so far.

I could not get the UserManager installed. The motherboard I use has 2Ghz processor with 1 GB of Ram.

I followed the instructions carefully to get UM installed but it just did not work.

to control the badwidth at client side is more advisable because it reduces traffic on our wireless links also.

from my opinion do both the things for bandwidth control.
