Wireless cards and NV2 compatibility

Thu May 03, 2012 6:23 pm

Hi,

I am testing NV2 and on one AP when I enable NV2 (using wireless-protocol=any on client stations) there are 2 client boxes which do not associate (even after 5 minutes). It seems the common thing is they are using Philips wifi card (00:05:41:x.x.x). The client installations are rather old ones (RB112). They are only the 2 clients on the AP with Philips wifi card. Is it possible that the card is not compatible with NV2? Sorry I do not know the proper card name (I think there was no description on the card).
The question is - are there any wifi cards known not to work with NV2?

Thank you for your time

I changed wireless protocol on the clients from "any" to "NV2 Nstreme 802.11" which solved an issue where clients were associating but would not pass traffic.

Wireless cards and NV2 compatibility

If you use nv2, it means you're using v4.x with wireless test pkg or v5 ROS. don't remember the exact specs for rb112, but I've thrown all the 133's away at my expense, because they're useless with v4.. I think nv2 is a little bit easier on cpu than nstreme, so you might get it at least working, but it should be quite painful..

I know the 112s and 133s are slow and old but we still have to much of them. It is not possible to replace all of them in a short time. The stations with NV2 are all runing 5.15...

Remember reading on the fourm where a user was advised to remove un-used packages to help reduce CPU load on an old board to run latest OS, not sure if it applies to the board listed in this topic.

NV2 on RB113 and RB112 is possible with ROS 5.14.

But you'll experience jitter and limited bandwidth (max. 10Mbps).

Only install absolutely necessary packages and ensure to upgrade the firmware before you go to ROS 5.14.
If you don't upgrade the Firmware before you upgrade to ROS 5.14 then you will brick your RB113/112 and make a netinstall unavoidable.
