RB411GL Poe Woes

Sat Jul 28, 2012 12:28 am

Hello,

Anyone one have any RB411GL's on a tower? We are experiencing odd issued with the first set of RB411GL's the we tried. I have 50 or so RB411AH boards and they all work flawlessly with the TP-POE-24i poe injectors. We purchased two RB411GL boards with the TP-POE-24G injectors and we are having flaky issues. On the bench, pings will be erratic, can't login to winbox, but then all of the sudden you can, the board resets all of the sudden, doesn't seem to matter if the cable length between the board and the injector is 10 feet or 250 feet. I currently have them on the bench and they are working fine with a 300 foot cable, but I'm sure when I go and put them up on the tower it will not work properly again. We tested the existing cable on the tower and it all seems fine. We also just put up 5 other radios on the same tower with RB411AH boards and they are all working fine.

Any ideas would be great to hear.

Dan.

Hello Dan, did you ever get a reply to this post? Did you solve the issue with the 411GL or perhaps it was a card that arrived damaged?
I am about to purchase 32 units and initially was going to buy 411AH but then I am considering switching to the 411GL as a better choice due to processor improvement and the Giga port. But now having found your post I am thinking two steps back!!!

pls. let me know as I have to proceed asap on this purchase.
regards,
XR

Does the RB411GL have a plastic or metallic ethernet port?.

I have found that there is some sort of speed negotiation issue with these boards or possibly the injector I have. If I set my rb411gl to 1Gbps Full Duplex manually it does not linkup. That leads me to believe that there is a problem with the routerboard. If I have it set to auto negotiation then it works but not on all switches. I have found that if you connect it to a Gigbit only switchport and not a 10/100/1000 port it will work.
